Star Wars Misconceptions

I had always assumed that Lando was a Correllian (sp?) as well.

As far as the DS main reactor issue I understood that the DS 2 was to be an improved model that had extra protections against such minor attacks by one-man fighters, which is why it was so imperative to knock out the shield and reach the main reactor through the exposed superstructure because once the DS was completed there was going to be no way to destroy it at that point.

When I first saw Yoda, I thought he was some kind of evil troll and was terrified of him.

I totally loved Yoda... I remember him being on the cover of People magazine (I think that was the mag) and instantly recognizing Frank Oz's voice, being a huge Muppets fan.

However, I did think he was just a human and that he looked that way because he was 900 years old. Never could figure out HOW he lived that long, but figured if a human could live that long that THAT is what they might deform into looking like.

I also thought as someone stated earlier that Tusken Raiders were some sort of monsters and not humanoids in protective masks/gear.

I still like to think of them that way. Way cooler in my head.

Also have a faint memory of thinking that Han owned the Cantina. I know, I know, he flips Wuher some coin for the mess, but at my age I must have missed it.

Maybe it was the way they shot Han and Chewie sitting coolly in the corner while all of these scary aliens were around them, plus Luke & Ben approached them... then later Greedo approaches them... kinda like a Mob boss sits in the back of a resteraunt while people approach them. Says "authority" or "power" which translated into establishment ownership somehow to a 6 year old, haha.

I was right:

Oh, my God, Dude, I still have that issue! And what's amazing is that beautiful Freeborn puppet STILL looks better than any incarnation of Yoda from the Prequels.

Agreed.

I always thought that Anakin becoming Darth Vader was going to be a very impressive scene...

And I remember seeing the preview to episode 1 on tv thinking, "Oh my gosh, another Star Wars movie!!! FINALLY!" (I was seven years old... and even I was disappointed.):rolleyes

As a kid, I thought C-3PO and Dak (the pilot) were the same person. :lol

I think it may have been because Han calls C-3PO "professor", and at the time I thought Dak's nickname was "Doc".

Weird. :lol :lol :lol

I also remember, upon my first viewing of ANH, when Luke says something along the lines of wondering who Obi-wan Kenobi is...I remember saying "It's you dummy". :lol :lol :lol

This cover was a huge friggin' spoiler. You're not supposed to know the annoying green guy is Yoda until the "I cannot teach him" reveal. Pissed me off.

their not!?!?
ive been watching star wars since i was like 5 and i have always thought that they were some kind of creature and that was their actual face. :lol

At 7, I saw Star Wars when it was first released in 1977. Didn't have any misconceptions until later when it was re-released before ESB came out...

Of course this re-release is where "Episode IV: A New Hope" was added to the opening crawl...This really confused me, and for a while I thought Planet of the Apes might have been a previous Star Wars episode...Explaining where Chewbacca came from. :p

Maybe the Death Star's mass was so was much it had a gravitational field strong enough to pull a drifting SSD into it.
SSD have a bit of mass of it's own too.

What sucked was the weak ass explosion.
Looked like a backyard effect.
I thought for sure the special editions would punch it up.

I guess that would depend on how close the SSD was to the DS and who knows about that considering how the distance seems to change depending on whether you're looking out of the throne room window or in the midst of the battle.

I always thought the whole sequence was lame. First fish head tells the rebels to concentrate all the firepower against the SSD and miraculously an A-Wing spins out of control over the surface of the DS, flies through the battle, and just happens to take out the bridge. No backup kicks in and the SSD hits the DS and bursts into a big torch. Lame as hell.

I also never understood why the remaining Imperial ships didn't finish off the rebels or call in more SD and SSD to get the job done. Wimps.

It was added to the 1981 re-release, a year after ESB.

Not a misconception but a question, why has Boba Fett been given this mythical status as the most fearsome bounty hunter in the SW universe?

In TESB Fett stands around looking cool and tracks Han to Bespin. He says a couple lines, fires a few shots at Luke, and leaves. End of appearance.

In ROTJ Fett stands around looking cool, fires a few shots at Luke, and dies. End of appearance.

In the SE's he was added in and stands around some more.

I don't care what he does in the books, comics, etc. I just find it funny that this minor character that does just about nothing is thought of as being so awesome.

Vader addresses Fett specifically when he mentions "no disintegrations." Every officer in the Imperial Fleet is terrified of Vader; Boba Fett is not. He talks back to him several times. When Fett tries to shoot Chewie during his outburst in the carbon freezing chamber, Vader merely forces his gun down. Everyone else who displeases him gets Force choked and dies.

Basically, Vader respects Fett, and that creates an intriguing mystery.

Maybe the crash happened because the helmsman(men) panicked & hit the wrong buttons and levers when they saw the A-Wing about to crash into them.

Looking very confident in front of the second most evil man in the galaxy. that's awesome!

and..
On Bespin scene,Fett knew exactly Luke's position(my friend pointed me on this) -- when he walks in front of HIC...see his head movement, damn!
That's my most recent point of him being so awesome!!
ahum:sleep

SE scene doesn't exist except for the costume:confused

And Boba has a cool hat.

The ships in Star Wars acted like airplanes. So when the pilots die they fall down out of the sky.
In space reality they would just keep on the same course.

When I first waited for Star Wars and the theater filled up I thought I must be in the wrong movie. Sci-Fi with a full house?

When it was over I thought about an hour had passed.

Makes me wonder if the rest of the ship heard the menacing countdown to impact... 10... 9... 8... 6... 5... "What happened to 7?"... just kidding! :) Sorry... was having a Space Balls moment there! I'll be okay in a couple of hours!

Oh... one more thing... in the original ANH movie, when Ben was turning off the tractor beam, all the controls on the console were in English... then in the special edition, they edited them into the SW Langauge... why??
'Cuz that's the way ol' Georgie Boy wanted it. :unsure

For the record, the not-so-special editions are rubbish.

The very first time I saw SW(1977), I thought the rebels had the Star Destroyer. And the stormtroopers were breaking out of the blockade runner. I can't explain why but then I was only 10. Seeing SW again cleared that up, ever since then I was hooked.
