It's been a few years but I used to love a game of chess and I fancied a Star Wars Chess Set, however the Royal Selangor Classic Star Wars Chess Set at £1500 is a bit out of my price range.
and finding a Gentle Giant set may be half that price but finding one in good condition in the UK in good condition has proven fruitless:
So for the past few months I have been collecting Star Wars miniatures from Star Wars Imperial Assault to make my make my own Star Wars Collectable Chess Set with half an idea on how to best display it. In the end I probably could have paid for a Gentle Giant set.
I haven't costed up what I have spent but a little here a little there and the odd bargain, and 3D printing the board and the pillars and it doesn't seem so bad.
Now I'm not the best miniature painter and some of the faces are scary as hell so I don't recommend zooming in but I'm pretty happy how the pieces and my concept of the board have come out. I am looking at purchasing a resin printer over the coming months so I may redo the board, having learnt a fair bit during the production of the board. It's powered by a rechargeable 3Ah rechargeable LiPO battery which should be plenty of juice for a game
I really enjoyed this project, I hadn't painted miniatures since I was a teenager some 35+ years ago, but I have already started collecting other miniatures now, hopefully with more practice the next ones won't be as scary
