Star Wars anime WOW!

I put "The Imperial March" behind it and absolutely lost my shiznit. Star Wars and vintage anime: two great tastes that taste great together!

I loved the way the bomber pilot moved in the cockpit. (But do interceptors really have cannons in the wingtips? Never mind.)

That or he wasn't happy it ended up all over the internet.

Here's the quote from the homestead. Told you guys there was a reason it was /m/ only.

Bah..! What the hell?
I just got back in and there are 50-odd messages in my inbox and the video is on a bunch of websites.
Damage control..! I've removed it, since it is supposed to be something I'm doing with /m/ (I thought there were like a hundred of us, max..?). The idea was always to develop it here and then release the final version to the 'public', but sadly there are a bunch of places now linking to (and probably reuploading) a completely unfinished rough product.

Thanks, Beechy. I kept putting it off because I was on my ipad. I'm tempted to add sound effects to this.

And now, I'll weigh in with my two cents as perhaps the only critical viewpoint so far.

Honestly, I like it for a lark, but anime is just not my thing. The spaceship work is all good, but anytime it cuts to humans, it feels like it was designed for someone else other than me. I would not want an entire series of this. It would get old real fast. I wouldn't mind some direct to video movies occasionally, but anime is not the answer for "fixing" Star Wars.

I love traditional animation. Much more than 3D CGI animation. It breathes with life and spontaneity that computer animation just can't duplicate. I liked Tartakovsky's Clone Wars style better than Filoni's. I would rather the Clone Wars continued with cel animation rather than CGI, or I would welcome a new traditionally animated Star Wars cartoon. I'd like to see perhaps their own, new style of animation. Something painterly. Something fresh and different. Like a living storybook illustration.

But not anime.

Sorry.

That's anime for you. Definitely a...different approach to characterisation and representation of the human spirit - Mike Leigh it ain't. Not my thing but ce'st la vis.

Thing for me about this jawdroppin' bit of animation is it shows how good the material released under the SW banner could have been or could still be. It's nice, it's healthy, to get a bit of that excitement back, I think.

Eh, vive la difference and all, it'd be a boring world if we all liked the same stuff. It's like me and Disney - I want to like it, but I just can't deal with the huge eyes. :lol

Also, any old-school X-wing/TIE Fighter fans out there catch that the TIE interiors all have stuff from the HUDS in 'em? I appreciated that touch.

I'll agree that the cut to human faces is a bit jarring, but conceptually it'd work, even if the "all the badguys are always grinning" thing would get old after a while. If you're dealing with Imperial characters who are wearing closed-face helmets, you'd want to be able to show them emoting, so showing them "inside" the suit with a blue-ish filter would be a decent way to do it. Think of it as a visual equivalent of a voice-over inner monologue. :)

Absolutely! Whenever we see an over the shoulder shot of the pilot in the cockpit I get goosebumps. :D

Upon multiple viewings it doesn't bother me as much as it did originally. As others have said, it helps with identifying the characters. :thumbsup
