Well, the point is not what the illusory "survivors" claim, but the fact that the Enterprise crew does not dispute it. Spock has obviously read the files on the Columbia, Pike reports back to Number One on the ship... and never at any point does anybody question anything the survivors have said.
As I say, "circumstantial"... but I bet if you go back and read the shooting script, or "The Making of Star Trek" (Whitfield and Roddenberry, 1968), you will definitely come to understand that Columbia was an Earth vessel.
Like I said, I'm just messing around. It's pretty obvious that the "TOP SECRET" text was a flub.
