Star Trek: TOS

"Hairs are there to be split."

Have you looked at my avatar lately? :lol

I'm glad you said it and not I. I thought it, though. :angel

Well, the point is not what the illusory "survivors" claim, but the fact that the Enterprise crew does not dispute it. Spock has obviously read the files on the Columbia, Pike reports back to Number One on the ship... and never at any point does anybody question anything the survivors have said.

As I say, "circumstantial"... but I bet if you go back and read the shooting script, or "The Making of Star Trek" (Whitfield and Roddenberry, 1968), you will definitely come to understand that Columbia was an Earth vessel.

Like I said, I'm just messing around. It's pretty obvious that the "TOP SECRET" text was a flub.

I have another request:

randcards.jpg

:D

It would be interesting to see if Blu Ray screengrabs provide enough resolution... since regular grabs are too fuzzy, and AFAIK nobody has turned up those particular "publicity photos" (tho for all I know they might have been shot just for the episode, since they look rather poorly lit and spontaneously posed).

Anyway where did Charlie get publicity photos of Yeoman Rand. Does she have a MySpace page? Are those just images of how Charlie "sees" Rand? If so why is she wearing clothes. :lol

He never saw a girl before, so he has no idea what a nude women looked like! LOL

I always assumed that they were shot specially for the episode. As you noted, they seem too fuzzy for publicity shots. I guess Charlie's imagination is a little fuzzy when it comes to women. :p

My first crush!!!

Bought a copy of her book not long ago. I haven't read it yet, but was impressed to learn that she played one of the musicians in the all-girl band in Some Like It Hot. :thumbsup

You're not allowed to notice her. :p

So does Rand qualify as a "flesh woman, to touch, to hold..."

And does this suggest that it would be permissible for the captain to touch and hold a woman as long as she's not "flesh"? They do have some pretty impressive androids in the 23rd century. ;)

"No braid on my shoulder." Is this just an expression? Even on his wraparound tunic, the braid is closer to his collar than his shoulder... :confused

OK back to paper props... well let's see, there's that Klingon proclamation from "Errand of Mercy"...

imageuploadimageh.jpg

That symbol at the top BTW seems to be the "actual" emblem of the Klingon empire... the tribladed thing wasn't come up with until much later. The ribbon thing tho shows up as a wall decoration in EOM, and also resembles the insignia on the Klingon sashes.

well nuts, I guess that leaves a lot of room for interpolation!
Dang. Didn't they mention some of the rules of the proclamation too?

"From this day on,
no public assemblages of more than three people.
All publications to be cleared through this office."
Neighborhood controls will be established,
hostages selected...
a somewhat lengthy list of crimes against the state."

Actually a few lines later, Spock is referred to as a "Vulcanian", for one of the few times in the series! The planet was originally called "Vulcanis", and James Blish used those terms in early novelizations.

This would be a nice one to have! :love

I don't recall whether we get a clear shot of the full page in the episode, but presume that phase pistol would have chosen that screenshot if it were available.

Kor reads some of the Proclamation aloud:

"From this day on, no public assemblages of more than three people. All publications to be cleared through this office. Neighborhood controls will be established, hostages selected... a somewhat lengthy list of crimes against the state."

It seems that about halfway through, he switches from reading to summarizing. :(

Does anyone have any reference from which we could make a complete and accurate replica? I'd love to have a file of this! :D

Not really "paper" i guess, but there are a few significant BOOKS in TOS...

"Table of Comets, Galaxy Quadrant YX-12-114", from "Balance of Terror"....

imageuploadimaged.jpg

"Chicago Mobs of the Twenties", which was responsible for "A Piece of the Action"... :rolleyes

The Yang worship words, from "Omega Glory"

... and the illustration of Spock from the unknown book in the same episode! :eek

"City on the Edge of Forever" has a few intriguing possibilities, such as the boxing poster when Kirk and Spock arrive in the past

imageuploadimage.jpg

...and the various newspaper headlines stored in Spock's tricorder
