Star Trek TOS 50 th Anniversery Air Date

That was before my time, but I did fall in love with Star Trek TOS in the 70s, watching them in syndication on UHF! The UHF channels in Philly were 17, 29, and 48...and IIRC, Star Trek was on Channel 29. (But it might've bounced around over the years.)

The Man Trap's salt creature scared the crap outta me! lol Great episode!

My favorite episode was Patterns of Force, the Nazi episode. Don't hate me, I was just a little kid, but I loved Nazis when I was young. My number one favorite show was Hogan's Heroes! Up until about age 10, I thought the Nazis were the funniest, coolest guys around! Of course, I knew nothing (pardon the Sgt. Schultz pun) of the atrocities committed by the Third Reich. Today, the only good thing I can say about the Nazis is that they had the coolest, most badass military uniforms of all time. (But I still love Hogan's Heroes!)

With no internet, no VCR, no DVR...I just had to wait eagerly for the next time they'd air Patterns of Force--and many other TOS favorites of mine, like The Menagerie (I was fascinated--pardon the Spock pun--by Captain Pike in that futuristic wheelchair), Arena (the Gorn captain was scary as Hell), Amok Time (the epic battle between Kirk and Spock!), A Private Little War (loved and terrified by the Mugatu!), Assignment: Earth (loved seeing the crew go back in time on Earth!), Catspaw (not a great episode today, but as a kid, I was thrilled by a huge black cat!), and Who Mourns For Adonais (I wanted to be like Apollo, to be able to speak with a loud echo to my voice, and grow to 50' tall! i'm so stoked STC did a sequel to this episode, and that they got Michael Forest to reprise his role of Apollo, which he absolutely nailed! i loved Steve Reeves movies, and Apollo reminded me of him.).

I loved almost all of the TOS episodes--minus The Squire of Gothos, and the couple of episodes with bratty kids--but the above are some of the episodes that made the biggest impression on me. Oh, I suppose I have to add The Corbomite Maneuver to the list of favorite eps from my youth, as I was fascinated by the little boy (Clint Howard) running that ship. lol

Today, however, I'd have to rank my favorite episodes this way:

1) Mirror, Mirror
2) The City on the Edge of Forever
3) Space Seed
4) Amok Time
5) A Private Little War (Nona!)
6) Balance of Terror
7) Patterns of Force
8) Arena
9) Wink of an Eye
10) Turnabout Intruder (I know a lot of fans hate this episode, but I love it!)

Happy 50th, Star Trek! Live long and prosper.

Hahaha! Me too! When I was maybe 7 or 8 I made a nazi armband and cap out of construction paper and was going to wear it to school for halloween.
My Mom wouldn't let me, said it was inappropriate and offensive. I couldn't understand why. That was the start of my education on nazis.

I also grew up watching Trek reruns in the '70s.
My favorite episode (now) is "City on the Edge of Forever".
I didn't have a favorite when I was a kid.

Just met William Shatner at a Con and talked and Thanked him for the Memories....so healthy at 85...You Think....P.S. I watched these Live....I'm Old?????....

Oh Lord the thought of you in your little Bundist outfit skipping to school...Nowadays you'd be all over the internet and your life basically ruined forever. Sundays at 4pm on KPTV Channel 12 in Portland Oregon was TOS day and I never missed an episode. Trek has had an incredible impact on my life. My close friends, my current job are all connected to Star Trek in less than 6 degrees of separation. Thank you Gene for your vision.

I'll be watching The Man Trap tonight at 7:30pm central time. I found a Romulan Ale recipe on line and we'll also be having this.

Amazingly scifi channel had a tribute marathon on with the movies, and them promptly showed them out of order. They went from Voyage Home to Generations. That said why do they always show these movies at 4am? They show trek stuff a lot but it's always at the worst hours. I kinda wish my grandma had made it another 9 years and hadn't had her mind go, she loved watching this show.

I've been watching the 50th anniversary on BBC America. I had never seen the OS with the updated FX. I like 'em!!
