Star Trek: Picard

Agreed, Star Trek was so much more optimistic and interested in sci-fi concepts and good escapist storytelling. From the brief glimpse I took into the Kurtzman/Abrams idea of Trek, it seems to either want to be cool explosions or follow in the current trend of dark and edgy like Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Ozark.
That's why people are enjoying The Orville, it's an escapist sci-fi series with a more optimistic outlook that is a welcome change from the same dark, gloomy trend that seems to be the benchmark for what is perceived to be "good" TV these days.
If someone isn't being a d@#k to another person, cheating, lying, trying to sleep with or kill them then execs think people wont watch it.
TV in these strange political times needs to be an escape from the darker tone of life we are constantly fed through the news.
We need the positive role models that Trek used to give us, strong, honest, moral leaders, scientists, engineers.

Where are the Picards, Janeways, Datas, Trips, Dax, Torres, LaForges, Spocks, Odos, Archers to inspire the next generation and give hope and optimism for our present and future?

Yeah they think it won't work. But you don't have to be 100% optimistic. ST never was and often times discussed real world issues like racism etc on screen. It had an idea. The problem is, many shows/movies don't get a working ensemble together. The core of every Joss Whedon series. Characters you care about, who have their strong connections to each other and have progression in arc and character developement.

It's all a matter of taste. I liked the ENT cast much more than every 24th century cast. But all of these shows had a working ensemble that could tell stories (lot's of bad stories, too IMHO).

What I did not like on ST was that there were many interesting characters that got little to none progression in developement.

The lack of progression was because of the episodic model of the age. The status quo had to be restored by the end of every episode, so they could be aired in syndication in any order. DS9 telling an ongoing story even to the extent it did was something Behr and Moore had to fight for.

That and Uncle Joe and Babylon-5 showing the Mount that it COULD be done! (y)
Well, Joe shopped B5 to Paramount, but they "weren't interested". They knew he'd probably get it on air eventually, so they had to get there first, and went to work on what would become DS9. Joe's still coldly furious about that.

But even then, they didn't have faith in it. Voyager spent the first couple years being Gilligan's Island in space, and even after it started trying to be more complex, it was depressingly static. Harry never getting promoted, especially.

Well yeah, Joe shopped it to everybody.

No doubt in anyone’s mind that DS was a rip off of Bab-5

Don’t even get me started on Voyager, Garrett told me about a lot of his run ins with the brass at Paramount, and how they shafted the Actors in quite a few ways on that series

I watched DS9 before B5 and I assumed it was a copy, but everything about B5 was done better than DS9. I liked both, but B5 felt so much more like a real working space station than anything they could pull off with DS9. DS9 by comparison feels like a completely non working empty space station.

In the meantime we can all enjoy again those beautiful shots of the Enterprise refit on the big screen.

Awesome!!! I'm always checking the Fathom schedule but I hadn't noticed this. They must've just added it to the calendar. I caught the Fathom screening of Wrath of Khan and even though I've seen it a bunch of times, it was so great watching it on the big screen.

I wonder what Rick Berman’s thoughts are about this, seeing as he was the guardian of these characters for so long.

80 year old Picard in a sword fight, followed by 7o9 with double phaser action. But it's ok, because these characters are from TNG and had to go through some of the worst stories in TV history.

I have mixed thoughts about this. Watched the trailer a couple of times, and overall liked it.

It looks genuinely interesting. There's clearly a lot going on. There's a nostalgia to it and newness that will hopefully keep it fresh. That old Romulan ship was very neat to see in a modern show. I was shocked to see it. And it was fast, but I'd swear I heard that old timey TOS twang when it fired.

I was certainly not happy to see those ****** discovery shuttles, or San Francisco scene that looked lifted directly from Discovery. A lot of very dark, super quick ships with more blue lights. So much blue and dark again. I guess that's the style entrenched in sci-fi now. I'm sure there will be a lot of ****** discovery things inserted.

It certainly has my interest none-the-less. It was fun seeing a cubby faced older Data, though honestly, they probably should have dropped that idea, or given him better make up.

Another link, since not everyone lives in the US, and those FRAKKING IDIOTS @CBS (I-C-plenty-of-BS) blocked us Euro trash from seeing the other video.

It's nice to see that they finally managed to find an actual Star Trek font, since with STD they couldn't even get that right.

"The old combadge is back" no, it's really not. This one is different.
And the one they should be using lookis like this:

Verisimilitude is the name of the game, and they are losing it, badly.
