Star Trek: Picard

Can not forget about the Writers strike that plagued season 2 of TNG
It's ironic. The writers' strike and the heyday of Maurice Hurley. And yet that's always the season I find most rewatchable. I'll start around S1's "We'll Always Have Paris", and just let it go through S2's "Peak Performance", for sure. Might let it continue into S3, but start having more "ehhh... it's a good episode, but not right now, I think..." There's a little cringe, but, by and large, S2 TNG is about my favorite solid block of Trek. I wish the season hadn't been shortened by the strike -- I could've done with it being a couple episodes longer.

Also, re: Picard... I see the Romulans have found a cure for the Bumpy-Forehead Syndrome that plagued them for decades. That's good.

RMB spoke about Picard for only the first 45 minutes or so. Besides, if you wanna hear intellectual reasoning on why the show lacks the essence of Star Trek, RMB's your best bet. Other channels like Nerdrotic and Doomcock, while entertaining, most of the time just come across as immature ranting and almost always just consist of them throwing insults at those responsible for the show.

When TNG and Voyager ended in fact when the Berman era of Star Trek ended and fans would imagine amazing crossovers between the iconic characters from the different series crossing paths, I'm sure we all had brilliant ideas about how they would play out onscreen with a big budget.

Flashforward to 2019 and you're given this amazing news that Picard and Seven of Nine will crosspaths onscreen, can you honestly say that the absolute rubbish they gave in that 5th episode of Picard was what you imagined. Seriously, THAT was the best that modern Star Trek writers could come up with.
Absolutely horrendous.
WHAT AN EPIC WASTE.
We will never get a first meeting again, it will forever be mired by that mucky mess. At this point I genuinely hope that no other Star Trek alumni sign on for guest roles on Picard.
It has cemented my view that the Kurtzman era is the complete death of the Star Trek that created a 50 year legacy.

On a side note. I had the misfortune of seeing a picture this morning showing a 6 starred Federation flag in tatters flying over a bleak landscape. The irony is that completely sums up Kurtzman Trek. It is literally over for Star Trek as we knew it.
The image was "promoting" what appears to be season 3 of Discovery.

Thankfully I haven't watched anything beyond the pilot of Discovery so my head canon of Star Trek hasn't been tainted by that series too, it's just the first two reboot films and 4 episodes of Picard (I skipped episode 4, it looked pointless) that I have to try and forget.

There are HUGE fundamental problems with this show but I just can’t get past the cheap sets and costumes.

Look at the sets!
The space ship bridge is just one long set with little detail except for the bright lights in the back
Then for the captains quarters they literally just reused the Chateau Set and call it a holodeck or something.
The Fertility clinic “set” literally just looked like some shopping mall.

And the “casino” set was ridiculous! The final shot of Seven showed the empty Set and how dull it was

Having 20th/21st century doors, escalators, stairs etc would be the equivalent of us using draw bridges and living in castles.

Old trek always made, at least, an attempt and making buildings and clothing look futuristic.
Now we have button up shirts, Panama jack hats and SUNGLASSES!

Make no mistake, this is nothing but a quick cheap cash-grab hoping that the fans will tolerate and support it.

There is hope though as the new leadership at the Mount is seriously considering cleaning house and begin anew....
... and they can start by booting out Kurtzman and his cronies. And maybe give another shot to Bryan Fuller to make the Star Trek show he originally wanted to make before the project got hijacked.

We know it’s all filmed in California. So Patrick stewart probably wouldn’t have to drive far.... it just seems so thrown together

I think what’s even MORE insulting is the “Ready room” after show hosted by Wesley Crusher.

In the latest one he interviewed the Elf guy ans was asking him all these deep method acting questions and I wanted to be like

“Hey kid, it ain’t that kinda movie”

I binged them today and ‘shields up’ I enjoyed it. No one will ever be happy with ST and SW. I’ve enjoyed all of it to varying degrees. If I can not think about my mortgage,my job, my health, for 45 minutes I call it a win. I say please keep trying, I’ll keep giving it a chance......

If you're enjoying it, that's great you shouldn't have to worry about putting your "shields up". We're all adults here.
If it gave you an escape from life for 45mins then it did its job.

I personally feel that Star Trek has taken a huge downward spiral in quality since Bad Robot/Secret Robot took the helm.

We all have an opinion and one is no more valid than the other, when it comes to enjoyment it's a personal matter.
I love all of the series from TOS to Enterprise. Enterprise is a series not a great number of people would agree with me on but their dislike doesn't diminish my enjoyment.

I have to admit, that despite my complaints about Picard, ep 5 was the most enjoyable one so far. I liked the whimsy of it. There were a couple of parts I didn't like. The graphic violence with Icheb involving the torture. That's just a personal thing for me though. I never liked that specific type of violence since i was kid. And the incredible predictability that Dr Tilley or whatever the hell she's called, in killing Bruce.

And I wish Seven would have stayed for at least one more episode instead of just being a prop. But seriously, I think it was the nutty scenerio, and dumb plot that I liked so much about it. Weird how that is. Elrond was kind of useless, and I'm sensing they're ripping off how Drax acts in GOTG... We'll see.

It has been bothering me, for days, that the DOD (Daughter of Data) resembled “somebody” other than Data, and it finally hit me.

Now, I can’t “unsee” it.
