Star Trek: Picard

They're going make it so that the Borg were created by ancient Romulans, aren't they?
I sincerely hope not.
Didn't the Borg originate in the Delta Quadrant?

The Borg in this Bad Robot/Secret hideout version of Star Trek will probably speak like SoCal Valleys girls with EXTRA vocal fry!
"Resistaaaaance is like sooooooo fuuutiiiiiiile"

Who knows maybe these Borg will have a new warning, "Acquiesence is inevitable".

I'm enjoying this very much so far. Patrick Stewart certainly delivers but being the twins are synthetics, have to be "activated" and have no idea they are what they are... very cylon. its like a cross over of BSG meets Next Gen. I hope they take a detour and step away from the borrowing of BSG. Even the attack on Mars by the synthetics is like the Cylon rebellion. The tie-in with the Romulan supernova as part of the first StarTrek reboot that Spock was trying to stop and ultimately sent him back in time is a nice launching pad for this series. Now knowing that Picard swayed StarFleet to help evacuate even if for a while was interesting and why he left StarFleet was understandable.
Having federation scientists and doctors being allowed to work on the Romulan owned Borg cube is cool. kind of like if United Nations members were allowed to work at a facility in North Korea or Iran under some kind of humanitarian peace treaty agreement. Allowed inside to work... but closely monitored. The android on the Mars facility flashback was creepy as hell!

Episode 2 was BAD.

The Utopia Planitia flashback was so un-Trek-like. The first half felt like a CSI episode. The Soji/Narek portions felt like a CW teen drama. The lens flare was just too much.

And f-bombs DO NOT belong in Star Trek.
I guess you didn't watch Voyager... or speak Italian.

I can't believe no one got my reference to Trek IV.

Clear as day, mate. Which makes the decision to use excessive language in Picard even more mind-boggling. Profanities are so rare (aside from "damn") in the 23rd Century that Spock found it fascinating when he saw it being used in '80s San Francisco. Even Kirk found its use confusing, hence the "double dumbass" remark. In the TNG movie era the worst used was "s**t". But suddenly in late 24th century, everyone's swearing like sailors coz its hip and edgy, right?

For me, the admiral privately and disrespectfully dropping that F-bomb to Picard just reinforced that Starfleet truly has evolved into an organization that Picard no longer recognizes as the one he championed decades before. "Because it is no longer Starfleet" is what Picard answered, and repeated, to the interviewer, when asked why he resigned his commission. Picard said it, and then we see this evidence of it. I thought it helped to drive the point home.

I agree that the 2nd episode was weaker, and also agree with some of the other criticisms of the show, but the F-bomb didn't bother me, given the context.

Man. I cuss like a sailor but I was physically JARRED when she snapped back with that. So I guess it had its proper affect

Better used that stupid Tillys use in Disco

that spock reference further shines a light on the stupidity of this show,
again we're supposed to be in the 24th century, Tv is a thing even tho data specifically mentioning it being obsolete, and now from their perspective using archaic bad language,

more and more i am just seeing this

and im further expecting at some point to see some engineer trying to fix a plasma conduit with a rock,

Although Wil Wheaton’s apparent fawning over Akiva Goldsman had me saying “Shut Up, Wesley”, several times (I realize that he has to work, and I do like Wil), there are a lot of revealing (and very disheartening) pieces within the interview.

At one point, Wil says “....but it’s not derivative...and it’s not a reboot...and it CLEARLY exists in a world where Firefly exists, where Battlestar Galactica exists, where Discovery exists...”. This almost seemed like a backhanded dig from Wheaton. (At least, I hope that it was not meant as a compliment.)

Speaking about things that are derivative, this post-show format with a “nerd-genre host”—that is also used by Discovery—is such a derivative rip-off of Talking Dead.

Quote: The second equally dumb thing which made me totally tune out of any possibility that the current regime was in it for the science or took the Trek universe seriously was Pine-Kirk swing kicking a warp core, or whatever they made the component out to be, back into alignment.

Yeah that was way over the top. I still think Pine is a rather good Kirk, doubt he realy liked some parts of the scripts. Didn't he decline to make another trek movie?

No his contract was up for negotiations he wanted more money and who could blame him

I thought it had more to do with since the last movie didn't make as much money as they expected the studio wanted to re-negotiate all of the actors contracts to pay them less and none of them were willing to do so.

I heard that as well and I am sure that was a point the Studio went in with.

iirc he was only signed for 3 Movies

I stand corrected he had made the deal for Trek 4 when he signed up for Trek 3, and the Studios wanted to re negotiate since the Trek 3 did’nt make what they thought it should

The first episode is free on Youtube if anyone didn't know. I watched it and it's definitely interesting. It's not going to make me pay to see it though.

I watched the first two episodes today and I'm done already with Star Trek : Matlock. What has happened to writers and producers? I cant believe they have an outstanding Pike, crew and an Enterprise doing nothing and they make this stuff.

They'll probably use the phrase used by AI-possessed Leland in Season 2 of STD: "struggle is pointless", which is technically a dumbed down (as with everything else in the JJ/Kurtzman Trek era) version of "resistance is futile".

Are you serious?!!
Did they actually have a character say that? Wow, they really have dumbed down Star Trek more than I thought.
I don't watch Disco. so I'm glad I missed that.
