Star Trek: Picard rank pip questions

I did a search and didn't see this come up. I just picked up the Fansets Picard combadge pin (which is lovely, BTW). I have been looking at the uniforms and the rank pips don't look gold like in the past and seem to be larger. They appear to be a gunmetal gray like the back of the combadge. Anyone agree? Any thoughts as to the size? They look larger than the original 8mm gold ones from the past shows.
