The only ones that are out there in styrene form are from AMT/Round2. Both are box scale and not in scale with each other. The Defiant is 1/420 and the Bird of Prey is supposed to be 1/350 scale.
Not sure about the Defiant, but I thought there was a large resin Studio Scale BOP garage kit out there. I recall it was pretty pricey too. It puts the AMT to shame.
On a related note, there are several resin versions of the Defiant available - smaller scale, but they look pretty nice. Also, there are aftermarket additions to spruce up the Round 2 Defiant.
As far as I know there has basically been just 1 type of mass produced model for each of them. The dies that they are cast from have just moved from manufacturer to manufacturer. I've never done a Defiant myself but there are pleanty of resources out there to guide and clean it up. as Far as the BoP goes I'm of the opinion that it was a wonderful kit, with great and exquisite detail. I consider my BoP model to be among the first models that I was able to make well. It's recessed paneling really lends itself to the weathering processes
Thanks guys so much for the information, seeing this will be my first attpet and modeling and paiting ill prob go with the AMT ones and see if i can keep an eye out for a BoP, Do any of you guys know a good place for LED kits for these models?

Nice-N Models does the Bird of prey in studio scale along with a studio scale Ktinga. There was a studio scale Defiant that was made by REL but I'm sure it is long out of production.
It also has landing gear which are done fairly well.
The BoP builds out of the box looking pretty good with some creative paint and weathering. It is not accurate though and if that is important there are aftermarket kits which can help.
The Defiant is a mess IMO- a lot of the basic shapes are wrong (one contributing factor is that the show used two Defiant models, the physical one and a CGI one, the two did not match each other). There are some great enhancements to the model kit still available such as a new Bridge and a multilevel hangar deck which goes underneath.
