This announcement has been posted in other modeling forums, but I have not seen it posted here. Round 2 has released the following statement regarding the planned new movie Enterprise model kit:

"Many people have been inquiring about the new movie Enterprise model kit. We have the following statement.
Round 2 is not proceeding with development on the U.S.S. Enterprise model kit, as based on the 2009 film, Star Trek. We will continue to focus on classic Star Trek by reissuing nostalgic favorites and enhanced re-releases as well as some all-new tooling of favorite Trek subjects.
Live long and prosper,
The Round 2 Model Kit Team"

I'm not surprised by the statement, it's been all but expected since they pulled all references to it from their site some time ago.

I'm sure many will agree that the 2009 Enterprise or "JJ Prise" was a b@$tard child replica of TMP Refit.

Did I like the movie? absolutely.

Would I pay money for a model of this ship? absolutely not.

Glad Round 2 finally made a decision regarding this.

The people that build Star Trek models, that demographic is aging swiftly, I don't think most of them are enamored with the JJ-prise.
A 1/350 TOS E or at least a larger scale the the AMT and accurate TOS E would easily outsell the JJ-prise. I think Revell is coming out with something like that, there were some pictures from Germany recently.

The younger demographic wants pre-built products is my bet.

That's pretty disappointing :unsure Was looking forward to the kit, as at the 1/2500 scale it would have been around the same length as my 1/1000 Polar Lights / Round 2 TOS ships... and I like to pretend that the new ship is meant to be the same size as the old :rolleyes

Glad I grabbed the DVD with bonus Enterprise model (was a Target exclusive)... it's around 1/2500 as well and fits in nicely with the ships on the shelf. At least there's something there, and it looks ok from a couple feet away.

Yes Sir, that is correct. I am part of that aging demographic! Revell is releasing all new tooling for a TOS E and a Klingon D-7 in 1:600 scale. I am not sure what to expect as far as quality goes however. I was not impressed with the Revell Star Wars kits.

Revell seemed to aim their Star Wars kits at the younger modelers, lots of snap-tites and pre paints. I'm hoping the Star Trek kits will be more "grown up".

It's good news to me that R2 wants to concentrate on TOS subjects. There are lots of things there that haven't been done yet, or not done very well. I really hope the 1/350 TOS E gets made, and an updated version of the exploration set would be cool too.

I am disappointed that R2 dropped the new Enterprise, I love the new movie and the ship has grown on me,1/2500 scale was too small but I would have bought the model to support the company. As for new tooling I would love a larger accurate classic Shuttlecraft, I am hopefull for the 1/600 scale Revell kit. Maybe one of the newer young upstart model companies will get the Next Star Trek license,Moebius, Atlantis or Pegasus models.

I too would have loved a crack at the NuEnterprise.....i thought the design was fantastic.....painting, lighting and detailing the kit would have been fantastic!

I loved the design of the new enterprise...for the most part.

The nacelles weren't spread apart enough for my tastes.

But...this is sad news about the kit

No point paying so much for a model kit of the 2009 version when the toy they put out is only 12.99 on discount locally and it has lights and sounds lol

Round 2 has always disappointed, in my opinion. They were supposed to be making a 1/350 TOS E and yet, nothing. Now they dropped the JJPrise. Not suprised. They can't read the writing on the wall about what kits we want and then they ask at the end of the fiscal year "why aren't we making profits?"

For every person who hated/disliked JJ's version there are just as many of us who did like it, and would purchase a kit of it....maybe more, as you fine folks know. Maybe Moebius Models could get the license for it?

well, count me in as one that liked the new ship design. i would have bought the model in a heartbeat -- but as soon as I heard it was going south, I also picked up the Target DVD Enterprise model/case. It looks a lot nicer than the toy or the Hot Wheels diecast.

another thought...I like many ship and/or prop designs for what they are, but I can also like them even more so if I enjoyed the movie in which they were featured. I LOVED the 2009 movie, and therefore my interest in the ships/props was heightened by liking the story, acting, etc.

Wish I could say the same for the Enterprise 1701-A. Motion Picture was such a letdown, and the only reason I bought a model of that Enterprise was because I liked Wrath of Kahn.

Anyways, for each of you that says they hate the 2009 ship design, I bet there are those that loved it. I'm one of those.

I think it would have been a sales dud, not unlike the Scorpion. They would have been lurking on store shelves for years.

Besides I think the time to have it in stores is long past. Sales would have been OK riding the crest of the marketing wave. But would have fallen off sharply. It's not that popular a ship in the ST community.

I can't stand the thing. If I was given one of those kits, it would end up in the recycle bin, right after I ran over it a few times with my truck. That would be a vast improvement.

I agree with all of what you said. I mostly liked the redesign, though those close nacelles just looked odd. I didn't notice how close they really were in the film, maybe due to the camera angles.

I recently sought out a pepakura version of the ship, which is fairly detailed. It said it was 1:1000 scale, but it seems small; the saucer's diameter is a about 6". I did have to scale it down to 89% due to my printer's limitations, but even at 100% it seems small for the scale.

Also, the small size makes pepping it kind of tough. I've only pepped an Iron Man helmet before (who hasn't, I guess!) so I'm not too experienced. But it's tough to keep it from warping and getting everything to line up properly. I printed on 110 lb card stock, but I wonder if thinner paper was intended for that size. The instructions are a little wonky too, as it's only .PDF files, no Pepakura Designer file that you can view, and looks to be translated from Japanese.

I'm toying with the idea of scaling up the pepakura files, maybe even try to bondo it and add more detail at some point for proper model. It seems like it could be the quickest way of getting going on a larger scale 2009 Enterprise.

Here's the link to it if anybody wants it, there's also pics there if you want to see it. Again, I didn't make it or have anything to do with it:

Well, given their statement to "continue to focus on classic Star Trek by reissuing nostalgic favorites and enhanced re-releases as well as some all-new tooling of favorite Trek subjects", perhaps now they might give it serious consideration. I don't doubt there'd be enough people who want it.

As to the new Enterprise design, there are certain design elements I like about it, and others I don't. I'm not sure how I feel one way or the other about the kit being dropped. I always thought the secondary was a little warped-looking, and I was never a fan of the bulk nacelles. I liked how they managed to keep the saucer design in line with the feature film version.
