Purely from a franchise/brand standpoint, there is absolutely nothing that gives the instant recognition to even the most casual of Star Trek fans or even the general public that this is Star Trek.
I thought it was a Tripping the Rift reboot!

It just proves yet again that Kurtzman and Co have zero clue how to treat the Trek franchise' legacy that successfully ran from 1966 to 2005

It's more generic Kurtzman garbage to avoid.
