Star Trek Fan film - staring George Takei (Toronto)

Hey Everyone,

I'm working on a Star Trek "fan film" in Toronto this January, staring George Takei. The film is called Yorktown: A Time to Heal. It was started back in the 80s but got shelved for a long time because of FX limitations at that time. We are now finishing it, with CGI FX for the ships and space scenes, and filming additional scenes in Toronto to fill in the gaps.

As you can see from the pictures, the costumes are TOS inspired. A white strap with rank bar on the right shoulder, similar to the "Wrath of Khan" uniforms, was added to the shirts. As well, a different ship badge was put on the shirts. The goal was to have the uniforms look like an evolution between the TOS and movie uniforms.

Very cool indeed:thumbsup George is such a great and friendly guy. Looking forward to seeing this:cool

Here are some sketches from Andrew Probert of his concept Klingon "K-Fighter", which will be seen at the start of the film. We want to have the Klingon Pilot wear a space helmet. We are looking for a hand out there with coming up with a design for the helmet, if anyone is interested.

For a spacehelmet design you could use this one, and maybe make a transparent facemask.

Ever since that STARLOG article I've wondered what happened with this. Best of luck finishing it (and matching the footage :eek)!

I would absolutely LOVE to have a helmet like this one used in the film. Sadly, I lack the skills to make anything like this. If anyone knows someone who could make something like this, drop me a line! I've looked on line to see if there are any replicas of this for sale but haven't found any. The original molds were probably destroyed. I know this helmet comes from the STAR TREK: ADVENTURE tours at Universal studios.

For the costume, Probert said he envisioned the Klingon in an all black leather suit that would be a slight nod to the TMP Klingon costumes. We are working on ideas for it now. It won't be bulky armor; more of a flight suit design. The pilot is only seen from the waist up, so only the leather jacket and gloves will be seen.

A pepakura file of the basic shape of the helmet Pep and resin it and then use bondo and such for details..

You might consider basing it off the Klingon Helmets that were cut from the recent movie. They seem to be very inspired from a gas mask, run a hose from the front and put goggles over the eye pieces. I am sure some Star Trek Prop maker has built a replica of these from the movie that you could base off of, otherwise it's a pretty simple design.

In the last picture I posted, we see one of the bad guys kneeling next to a gold canister. Here is a new CGI pictures of the canister. These are still in early development. The canister is connected to a parachute, and crashes down on a planet.

I find it interesting to see Joe Kerezman and Kathy Pillsbury of 1990s "JK2 Costumers" fame in there.
