So, today I MIGHT have gone to Roddenberry.com, put an Enterprise jumpsuit pattern in my shopping cart, put in some credit card info, and hit submit.

Maybe.

So, in the off chance that I DID do this, does anyone have any advice/information/idea what I just got myself into, WITHOUT sending me to yet ANOTHER frakkin' message board that I'll forget my password to?

You know, if I did do this?

Along with a patch?

Seems easy enough; how about using the same password for multiple websites that don't require high security. That way you only have to remember one.
 
Captain April - Are you saying this because it's not the best of patterns? Because it might have been a mistake? Care to elaborate to someone that hasn't messed with anything Star Trek since the The Next Generation was still in first run?

feek61 - Oh, I've actually got an account on the 1701st message board, FWIW, but honestly, I hate looking at threads that are looking for information on here and seeing the response of "If you're really looking for information, you really need to visit (insert message board here) because (insert numerous reasons that boil down to boosting membership.)" I come to the RPF because it has a lot of good information and a lot of experienced members, and I've been doing that for almost 15 years. Don't tell me to go anywhere else, and get off my danged lawn! :darnkids

backstagejack1 - Actually, what I meant was I also ordered a patch along with the uniform pattern, although I need to look into what else I might need to pick up.

So nothing? Anybody?

Any experience with this pattern around here? Or with making this costume in general?

I'm starting with the Enterprise Jumpsuit too.

I'm doing the 6 main starfleet uniforms starting with Enterprise.

The instructions come in a CD in a Microsoft Word file which you need to print out.

Here the list on what you need that the instructions.

4 Yards Dark Navy Blue Med Weight Cotton (Pre-wash)
½ Yard Division color (Gold, Dark Red or Teal)
Zippers (these will need to be adjusted to fit openings in pattern)
Main Opening 24”
Sleeve Pocket 6”
Right Breast 5”
Left Breast 7”
Sleeves (2) 6”
Right Pocket 8”
Left Pocket 11” & 8”
Leg Pockets (2) 6”
Leg side Bottom (2) 14”

1 Foot Black 1” Velcro Fastening Tape
2 Feet 2” wide heavy elastic
4 black plastic 4 hole 5/8” buttons

One thing that I love about the instructions tell you right of the bat that it's going to be hard.
This is a very complex costume to make. You should have an advanced knowledge of sewing and costume/clothing making or find help from someone that does.

As you seen Roddenberry.com don't have the Enterprise rank pins so you have to find them on another site.

Not at all I have never created a costume from a pattern, it looks really hard I was just wishing you good luck in general. I have been trying to figure out a pattern for a project I have been working on for two years, so I am interested to see how this one goes it may give me some ideas.
 
Cap- Awesome. That's the clarification I was looking for! Yeah, this is going to be interesting. Fortunately, I'm not the one who's going to be doing the lion's share of the work, on this one. I'm a resin and fiberglass guy. I'm not good with softlines.

Something like this is what happens when you're doing Family Tech Support and your mother is talking about how she misses making Halloween costumes for her kids.

I am going to make sure to document everything she does and that I help out with, though.

Plus, I'm thinking it might be a decent base for a Vault jumpsuit from Fallout as well, but I'm not sure on that yet.

I usually do the "check forum x" thing when there is a lot of information and/or I am too lazy to copy it from whatever that other forum might be.

It depends on how they have you build the Ent jumpsuit. I've made the Mirror version of that jumpsuit but I did it without a pattern so I don't know how the official pattern does it.
For Fallout, Kwiksew 3389 is a decent starting point. I'm pretty sure that's what we used. When your pattern comes in, maybe look at that and compare it to the Kwiksew....if they go together similarly, you can probably reuse pattern pieces for Fallout :)

Okay, no not really, I just didn't want to leave you hanging after replying to my thread.

nasakat - In all honesty, the Vault jumpsuit comes well after I get a Pip Boy, so that'll be a while. I think that the ENT Jumpsuit has too many zippers, and too many weird panels.

I'm interested to see how you do this. The few patterns I've had from rod.com seem to be close but not quite screen accurate. My voyager took a small bit of customizing to get to a place where I was happy about it. The WOK pattern was taking a ton more customization, I still haven't finished it in fact. I've been on the fence about an Enterprise uniform so I'll be following this thread!
 
And ya see, here's the issue:

I fell outta Trek fandom in the late 90's, and haven't been that much into it since. It could be totally inaccurate, but as long as it was a blue jumpsuit with zippers, I'd say "Yeah, that's good."

Yeah, that might be a cardinal sin on this board, but what can ya do?

STpropguy76 - Thanks. Despite all my moaning about "other boards" that I do, I have, in fact, reactivated my Yuku or whatever it was account to be able to look over there, and I've been paying attention to his thread.

I just think it's always good to ask around, though, get as much as you can.

The pattern and the patch showed up this week, and we've figured it ain't gonna be a Halloween costume. It MIGHT be ready by Starbase Indy in late November, definitely gonna have it ready for Lexington Comic and Toy Convention in Kentucky early next year.

I write a Geeking blog for Indiana, and I'm spending this evening getting reference and setting up a section for it to cover this costume. Figure I'll pull a Munson. Why not, he? Sure, it's no Batmobile or R2 unit, but it's still something that someone might want documented.
