Has anyone ever done a rep of a Niners jersey from "Take Me Out to the Holosuite" on DS9? I know they sold those blue-sleeved ones a few years ago, but they were obviously very inaccurate. I was thinking of getting one made up. I've always wanted one, but justnever got around to getting it done. And I'm sure there are some accurate ones out there, but I've never personally seen one. I don't think it should be too hard-- just finding a good tackle twill place to do the lettering will be the challenge.
The jersey itself is a standard button-down baseball jersey, with the sleeves sewn on t-shirt style. Some jerseys (like the Yankees, for example) have the sleeves attached differently-- with an angled (or sometimes curved) seam that goes all the way to the neck. The Niners jerseys on the show appear to be the straight-sleeve seam style (like the Phillies). At first I thought the pinstripes were red, but looking closer, I see that they're blue. It's a bit hard to tell from the screencaps, but they look pretty dark, so I'm assuming they're a navy blue. (Which would make sense, since the caps were navy.) Plenty of resources to get this. No problem.
The letters aren't too tough either-- insofar as design. "NINERS" goes across the front, with the NIN on one side, and ERS on the other. The letters are red, with a blue outline, and a white outline around that. That means 3 layers of tackle twill. They are in the typeface that DS9 used for their credits. The angle seems to vary from uniform to uniform. I think the trick is just getting the three letters on each side to match up properly.
The names/numbers on the back are in the Trek movie (Kirk era) typeface. The numbers look to be the same 3-layer red-blue-white combo as "Niners," and the names look to be just red and white, set in an arc.
There's the baseball/station silhouette patch on the left sleeve. I've seen the patch before. I have one that's not accurate-- it has a blue background instead of white-- but I know the white-background ones are out there. Shouldn't be too tough to get.
I've done custom baseball and football jerseys before, so I'm experienced with tackle twill... but never *so* custom that I need the letters to be specially cut because of the unusual font. (I don't think anyone stocks letters in the DS9 credits or Trek movie fonts!) It's just a matter of finding a place that will do it, and do it as a one-off (not in bulk). So the big question is: Anyone have any good tackle twill sources? Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated!
Here is a basic diagram of how the jersey will conceivably look, and a few screencaps to go along with it. (The screencaps are not mine; they're from TrekCore. I hope it's okay to post them here-- if not, I'll take them down.)
