Star Trek 4 (Abrams, Kelvin, whatever...)

Not always. Compared to JJ Abrams' Trek, The Wrath of Khan is no action film.

Well, I was there when it was released sitting in a theater and for Trek, it was a straight up action film. It doesn't seem that way now but that is precisely what it was especially coming off TMP. So was III, a lot of silly action sequences. These new Trek films are more modern and contemporary visually and narratively. TFA booked along at break neck speed while ANH by comparison is slow but ANH was also considered and action adventure film in its day.

Don't be talking appropriate expectation and sense now... ;)

must have been realy big tractors than :p:lol

Shhh.. you can't say that! that's a successful business woman you're talking about! She's constantly applauded for running a multi million dollar company and..

oh god, the PC police are getting to me..

she made a porn and sold it to get rich and ahead in the world. I can't pretend to care anymore. yeah, it was a big tractor ;o)

it'll be interesting to see fan reviews on ST.

It has.

Had a discussion with one of my 35 year old friends and he was ranting about the mindset and attention spans of 24 year old friends he has.

I can't wait to see him at my age 55. :lol

Perhaps the de-evolution in "Idiocracy" has begun.

That snap chat you just learned? it came out three months ago and is already forgotten as 23 year olds move on to the next thing :)

I find it sad my attention span is next to nothing now. i personally blame the damn iphone ;o)

yeah that gets a little ridiculous... but is Greg so much an Easter Egg? Aw poor guy.

I was introduced to him through Felicity, so to me he was just one of the other actors who just kept popping up in other JJ projects. Around the LOST pilot I found out they were buddies. I guess then it was "Spot Greg"... but I think he's still got more going for him than that.

Amanda Foreman, however...;)

I liked Greg on Alias, and he was great on Heroes.

Karl Urban was the only good thing to come out of Nu Trek. After the last two, I can't even justify seeing a fourth installment to see Karl. I highly doubt Paramount or any other studio will be jumping to make another film after how well the last one performed.

Looking forward to seeing Urban in Thor and hopefully, someday...another Judge Dredd film.

"Beyond" failed to achieve the profit equation of double the production budget. Foreign ticket
sales even failed to drag it over the finish line.
Any studio exec would be giving that a real close look, the safe bet would be to say you know,
we've distracted the Fast and Furious crowd to cross over into the other theater as much as
we can now. Either that or cut the budget big time, and the Fast and Furious crowd loves visuals
so that's not going to cut it either.

I just couldn't believe they spent a $185 million (production budget ) on that film . That was "Beyond" reason. Where did all the money go????
Its not impossible to make a good Star Trek movie after a bad one, as history has shown, but given the near release of "Star Trek: Discovery" I'd have to ask any film studio just what would be the point?
The VFXs on this TV show actually look way more spectacular than "Beyond" ,and the characters look interesting but whether or not the new stories will be good enough to manage to draw in new viewers to offset the possible loss of the current fanbase remains to be seen.
So I fail to see what value a new movie would add to the franchise at this point.
I've rewatched the first JJ Trek quite a few times since its release and I still enjoy it, but I'm afraid "Into Darkness" starts to collapse under the weight of its own stupidity after a couple of veiwings, and I only managed "Beyond" once I loathed it that much.

Does anybody else think that Tom Holland would make a great Chekov?
I would like to see this character return and think Tom Holland could be a great fit

They've already said that they won't be recasting Chekov, so I think it's probably more likely that his character would die offscreen before the film starts, much like Spock in Beyond, so they can have a tribute moment to him in universe. I'd actually be down with Jaylah becoming part of the crew. Sure she only just entered Starfleet, but after Kirk getting handed everything in ST09, it wouldn't seem out of place. :D
