I have strong reason to believe it's a hero, but I can't confirm it with 100% certainty.

They must have changed the finish on the upper part at some point in production. I just picked a phaser up and the upper half on mine isn't molded in silver. It's got a a pretty realistic, metalic paint job. Very shiny. I can even see myself in it. it's not as mirror like as the lower half but it's close enough that it's hard to tell at first glance that it's two different finishes.

Not the best pic but you can see how much the upper half was refecting the flash.

And here you can see how reflective it is.

The more I look at it, the more certain I am the the upper half on mine is vac metalized too. It just has what seems to be a misting of gray paint to dull it down a bit.

As much as I am trying to get into this new phaser design I just can't, it is just plain fugly.

All I can say is that after holding it and playing with it, it feels like a phaser. It looks great with my other phasers as well. Just need to paint the barrels.

Well, I know that when TMP and TWOK came out I hated those phasers but after several years I came to appreciate them. I think my issue with them is when I look at them I think 'Quest' not 'Trek'.
BTW, for those that hadnt heard there is a CSI 'Trek' episode coming up where the star of the show is murdered after having sex in the Captains Chair.
Much like Galaxy Quest it isnt being called Star Trek but it is a cross between Trek and Quest (one of the folks refers to themselves as a 'Quester' as opposed to a 'Questie".)
Ill say one thing for JJ his movie has now inspired a Porno, an M&M music video and a CSI episode...

Well, I took a scouring pad to the chrome and I gotta say, It's looking better IMO.

Gotta be careful though. The chrome is really thin and it's easy to take it off completely. The plastic underneath is gray though, so it's not too noticeable thankfully :lol

Yep. Just put the black base coat on. Wait for it to dry then I'll go over it in silver. I don't want light leaking through.

Glim999, btw, I have looked closer at my toy phaser and I'm no longer certain there's a variant. The top half of mine also has a mirrored effect to it, but not as prominent as the "chromed" lower half/handle. Hard to say definitively without seeing yours in person, but I now think ours are the same.

God that thing is SO "Galaxy Quest". :lol

Likin' it better now though. I think it doesn't look so bad with the Kill barrel forward. Also the metal barrels help, the toy's clear blue and red plastic makes it look like a party favor or something. :lol

So wait, the actual prop has no trigger then? :eek
