Star Trek (2009 J.J. Abrams movie) Phaser Defined Thread!

Well the little screen could be there, and it's just showing the United Federation of Planets logo in that pic. Maybe you get a sticker to apply if you want to see Kirk or Spock. :lol

Seriously tho, all the old Playmates Star Trek toys from the Nineties came with stick-on decals for ship markings and whatnot, so it's at least possible

According to the Japanese on the lower right bottom of the communicator and the phaser images, they are both supposed to be 1:1 scale to the movie props. Looks like the phaser has two firing modes lights n sound etc.

Well, why would it be the Okuda/TNG version of the UFP logo though?
That's my favorite version but it doesn't fit... of course ANYTHING fits in an alternate universe, so I guess they can pick stuff they like from "anywhen" and put it in.

Maybe Data will be a crewmember too? :p

I do agree though, I thought it was the screen in a rest state, displaying the UFP logo.

Abrams apparently inserted little unmolested bits of pre-existing Trek design into his movie, I guess so that when fans complain, he can point to them and say "look we honored what came before".

Those pics are a bit too small for my taste. In fact, that whole site is a bit crappy, In My Opinion. BUT... at least we got a shot showing us where the LED lighting effects will apparently be on the Tricorder:

I suppose the top is rather reminiscent of the LED light display on a latter-series Trek such as Voyager.

Question... does a tricorder HAVE to have a view screen? Maybe the thing has reconfigurable LCARS readouts... or maybe it has a holo-projector type screen.

A tricorder, particularly a primitive one, wouldn't need a screen.... the inidcator lights could just indicate stuff. "Life forms detected"... "energy source bearing 237 mark 14"... "di-choronium present in atmosphere"... :rolleyes

Actually Spock always used to hold the tricorder so he coudln't see the screen anyway. I guess he learned how to read that warbling sound it made. :confused

I always looked at that as a cheap way of showing off the prop since all the work went to the area that's supposed to be facing the characters!

Thank goodness the higher ups didn't want to see the back end of the phasers.

It's supposed to be early TOS timeframe. No LCARS. No miniature holo-projectors.

Except that nearly 2 centuries of tech beyond the props' timeframe is available to both parties that are manipulating the timeline up to and including the point in history that these props appear.

Oh man I had a really great day today, the last few weeks have really been awful so I really needed this too. I got this thing all sealed up so I'll be setting up the mold in the next few days. It's so close to being finished now it's making me itch.

Man I'm stoked about how great today was.
