Star Trek (2009 J.J. Abrams movie) Phaser Defined Thread!

...but the old ones had little phasers riding piggy back on them, that's a little silly too.

I'll agree with that too. I always thought it was a stupid thing, and the "ham radio linear amplifier" analogy that some use to explain it doesn't quite hold up, IMO. I like the new phaser except for the flippy nozzle. But I'm still looking forward to seeing the movie.

I was thinking it'd be cool if JJ Abrahms purposely mislead people that Shatner doesn't appear in the movie, but does when it's released. Sort of a happy surprise. I can dream right?

No such luck (if you want to call it that).

Thing is, I have a sneaking suspicion that the original concept for Trek XI called for the return of Kirk (i.e. Shatner) as opposed to Spock (i.e. Nimoy).

Oh are we going back to talking about Nacelles Monthly ? I love the idea. I'm hoping to find a few very talented airbrush artists to help me out with a "Girls of Nacelles Monthly" calender. I'm hoping to get two years out of it before I have to change to much to get around copy write BS :lol. But yes I'd love to see it span across all star-trek time lines and maybe have a few nice pictures of warp cores as well. It's just an idea right meow but I'm hoping to get back to it soon.

Something slightly related, the toy phaser in packaging:

This is the first time I have seen a view from this side of the prop/toy.
What I had assumed was a triggering device in an area of the handle grooved for the thmb of the right hand seems to be duplicated on the reverse of the handle of this toy.

I wonder if that is true of the actual prop or if the toy manufacturer, who has already taken libertires with the design, simply did a mirror image when making both sides of their mold.

Maybe a triggering device on each phaser, on either side, to accommodate everyone, including south paws?

im loving the packaging so far, as for the small thing with the comm. i have no clue, looks to be another version of the comm?

I thought the original PHASER II was just a bigger battery, handle and additional (fine tune) controls for a PHASER I.

I think the other item with the communicator is a holster, like Tripper suggested. It also appears they ditched the little holographic "screen" in the flip top of the communicator.
