Star Trek (2009 J.J. Abrams movie) Phaser Defined Thread!

And I guess the Bridge playset has dynamic "console removal action"... or else the Bridge gets redressed at some... ah, who the hell cares. :lol

Nice touch tho, having all those guillotines all over the bridge. Great for spur-of-the-moment executions. :thumbsup

^...the HELL? That doesn't match up with the other version of the ship at ALL.

I see your the HELL? And raise you a WTF!?

This is looking cheesier by the minute. :sick :lol

PINK FREAKIN' CARPET.

Hope that's just the toys.

"These are the Voyages of the Metro-Sexual Enterpise. To explore strange new design sensibilities. To seek out new color swatches and fashion violations. To boldly go where no barcode scanners have gone before."

That phaser just doesnt seem to fit... I dont know maybe if it wasnt so reflective and metallic. Just doesnt seem very trek to me.

The tric is the only thing that interests me so far.

Mic- I have to admit sometimes you are hilarious. LOL

OK OK I'm sure we have all seen movies that look terrible but end up being great movies ( I can't think of any at the moment ). Remember this is a star trek movie, It's going to be fun and it might be very enjoyable. My only question is who has already started on their very own "better than the toy but not quite screen accurate" replica of the phaser ?

The top one is what you get when you buy the bridge playset. The rest of the stations come as accessories with other figures, so you can build the rest of the playset as you collect the crew figures. Kirk comes with the bridge, but Spock comes with... his science station? Uhura with the comm station? That would make sense.

I really did not want to slam the new movie but many the designs just seem so bad.

About the ship
When I look at the new Enterprise the words "pimped out" seems to come to mind.:thumbsdown. The other word is "elephantiasis" when i look towards the nacelles

The Phaser
At no time should the barrel of your own weapon be pointed toward you. That is a BAD thing!

The Phaser looks exactly how it should for the target audience it was designed for. Children.
Another decision based purely on marketing a toy.
It's cheap and gaudy with primary coloured flashing lights no doubt.
Sure to be a big seller.

And yes - at no time should a barrel of a weapon be pointed back toward the user. You can just imagine a plot element here - 'I've polarised the phased output of the human's weapons, if they use them, they will die instantly! Muha ha!'
If they had to go down the blue and red barrel route, then a double emitter weapon would have looked more formidable.
How does the barrel rotate?
Is there a switch on the body of the Phaser, or is it manually rotated?
Either way it's lame.

Actually the phaser looks like it belongs on a peg hook at Big Lots or the 99 cent store....chrome finish and red and blue clear plastic...I wonder if it shoots sparks and goes 'whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr' when you pull the trigger. I said before that the props were designed as toys with toy like action. The horizontally rotating emitter is so unbelievably cheezy as to be nauseating. That feature rarely worked right on set so it will be interesting to see if the toy works any better. Again, JJ would have been BETTER off with a nebulizer and I reiterate that I dont see how anyone with a discerning eye thinks this monstrosity has anything more then a passing resemblance to a TOS phaser.
"OOOh....SHINEY......!"

You guys do know that those pics are of the toys right? So maybe that's why they look all toy like and childish? Maybe the real ones look a tad more realistic?

...actually never mind, I don't know what I was thinking... :lol

sorry but they look very much like what the props look like...thats the problem.

Well, I like what I see. A lot. I think it's fresh and interesting. Now I know some of you would insult my intelegence because of that but remember that I'm a guy that thinks the TOS phaser is one of the most beutiful props ever. Thing is, I thrive on variation. I get bored when I see the same thing over and over so it excites me to see something new.

As for the Enterprise, the USAToday pic and the Wizard pic are two completely different toys. The one with the blue stand looks like a miniture (maybe a Johnny Lightning ship?) but the one on USAToday matches what we've seen in the trailer pretty well.

From the alternate universe Trek, with the evil Kirk and Evil Spock...

DUDE!! THE PROPS SUCK!!!!! How can they Fu@k Up soooooooooooooo many things!!!!

Um... Oh! That's uh... OH.

Hideous. Yes that's the word.

So the red and blue barrels swivel around that vertical axis, huh. Well that's only slightly retarded, isn't it. :unsure

Tricorder. By way of Playskool, it looks like. Oh dear GOD tell me it doesn't actually say "TRICORDER" on it. What is this, Mego?

They also appear to be toys from two different parts of the film.
The one on the stand has what look very much like TOS pennants and markings whereas the other does not (matching the one beauty shot we have of the E from the movie).
My guess is the unmarked E is the one that CADET Kirk commands and the marked one is the one that CAPTAIN Kirk in his gold uniform commands
