Star Trek (2009 J.J. Abrams movie) Phaser Defined Thread!

Just saw this - hilarious. :lol

WOW, i just checked back on this thread. I thought you guys werekidding about the spinning nozzle on the phaser at first. :unsure Maybe the red is a heat ray, and the blue is a freezy ray??? :lol

The tricorder looks like one of those old star tac cell phones on sterroids. The communicator looks kind of cheap.

Thank GOD Uhura is stone cold fly in that tiny little skirt.... hell, thats worth the price of admission all by itself!!!!!

Yep, one of the truly authentic parts of Trek they have included.

Hot babes in short skirts.

God Bless Gene Roddenberry's libido.

O.k. I'm a classic TOS guy anyday. Hated TNG until First contact and hated it again after that.. wait, hated TNG until Deanna wrecked the E-D.. there thats sorted.
Anyway, even though I hated it, I still kept watching it, secretly hoping Kirk would miraculously arrive from nowhere and blow that monstrousity to space dust and give me the show I wanted but that was not to be. Why you may ask did I hate it? Well the ship was (to me anyway) fugly, the phasers were dustbusters (or smaller variations thereof), and the stories just never really grabbed me.

As time has gone by, I can actually watch TNG and enjoy it now. I let go of my TOS only mandate and accepted it for what it was. With this new phaser, well the new gear, I feel that the redesign is more of that TNG stuff...

To be honest, I almost love the phaser except for that swiveling bit. That seems impractical to me.

Now had they kept the TOS gear, I'd have been ecstatic but (of course) they didn't. The gear isnt terribly far from what we know so I'm gonna give it a shot.
I figure it like this, when I go to see this film, I'll probably already know the story and I'm already figuring on a Trek II ripoff (Spock dying to save them). So I'm gonna go pony up my cash and prepare to enjoy myself, wether it's the Trek I know or not. Who knows, maybe someday this, or it's potential sequels will live up to the name.

Here's a painted version of the toy...
Looks better without the blue nozzle...and less of the red.

Here's one with the Grey added to the body.

I think I can work with that :)
I certainly like this one better than the Next Gen era dustbusters etc...which never looked like phasers to me.

To me a phaser is a raygun with a handle about midway to the body...toward the front.

Anything else is just a gun.

Spin, Spin, Spin...

Hey, I didn't design the ****ing thing, I'm just calling it as I see it. :)

The communicator and tricorder leave me cold, but I dig the phaser. My hunch is that a lot of prop-heads are going to dig the phaser once they've see it in action, but it's no skin off of my nose either way.

And, yeah, I wouldn't discount the notion that maybe there have been a couple small, under-the-radar screenings for the dreaded spin doctors and their sinister cohorts. :cool

Sorry `bout that.

Last thing I need is to alienate one of The Six.

Or is it seven? I've lost count.

I wonder, can you turn the "barrels" so that they are pointing to either side, and fire at people on both sides of you at the same time?
