Time for a really obscure droid build! The LGB droid who originated with the first Star Tours in Florida, and then was moved and modified slightly (wires removed and spring tail added) for Star Tours 2.0 in California. This is his current resting place:
Now, as far as I can tell, there are only really 2 images of this little guy on the whole internet:
Big thanks to DocNewborn and EndorExpress for images and info. This thread has been a HUGE help: http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=123556
The main body of this little guy is a Starriors Armored Battle Station toy:
I managed to find one for a reasonable price on eBay. Here's mine:
Identifying differences between the toy and droid prop:
Green sections are cutouts for perforated mesh. Orange circles are arm attachment points. Green and red dots are inserted LEDs. Blue circles appear to be silver painted LEDs (perhaps they were going to be functional, but they changed their mind). Red circled areas appear to be the wheels on the bottom of the unused snake part of the toy base (or if they're not they're very similar):
Base prepped for painting:
I then sprayed the base Audi Aluminium Silver and cut perforated mesh to size and glued it in. And then later I was directed to a YouTube video which shows the droid on the scanner at the new Star Tours 2.0 ride:
Dammit! Those bottom cutout are the wrong shape! :facepalm So I prized off the lower mesh, changed the cutout shape, resprayed the new bit, cut new mesh to shape and glued it in...
The head was identified as a piece from the Popoids construction set from the 80's:
Looked everywhere (that I could think of anyway) to find pipe for the neck that would be the right diameter to sit inside the hole in the top of the body and then have other pieces of pipe that would fit EXACTLY one inside the other inside it. Couldn't find any. In the end I went for a Monopod selfie stick, which when stripped and cut down turned out to be a perfect fit.
So.... This is where I'm up to with the little guy as of now:
Next up is head greeblie identification (help?!) and trying to identify those darn arms (they could be a rocket launch pad legs, but have scoured LOADS of images and haven't seen anything close. Also thinking maybe Christmas tree holders...?)
