Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 3d Print Files - Infinity Orb Base in Progress

Re: Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 10/3 - Light up earpiece, because why not?

Looks Great! I was just modeling my version of that same piece this week, and I put the switch in exactly the same place :lol

If you don't mind a slight nitpick, because all of your work is top notch, I think the outside of the top bit is supposed to be more angular flat surfaces rather than one big curve.
You can sort of see it here:

And the Sideshow 1/6 scale figure supports it as well. I wouldn't trust the toy 100% but when it seems to match the best reference pictures I can find, I'd say the shape at least is a pretty good approximation.

Sort of a more angled piece, tough the inside edge may be more rounded. It's really hard to tell. That's a really minor quibble though. Just like everything else you've done, it looks great and I can't wait to see more!:)

Re: Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 10/3 - Light up earpiece, because why not?

... you are absolutely right, and actually that's a little easier to work with, frankly. I'll make mine more angular. Thanks for the images, I hadn't seen either of those!

you.... are... a... god......

Re: Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 10/3 - Light up earpiece, because why not?

I just can't fathom how you just toss these designs together. it would take me months to make something as simple as that earpiece and it would look like a potato.

Re: Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 10/3 - Light up earpiece, because why not?

Well I thought I was a genius when I found out my University has 3D printers for students. Except today I found out the technicians are kinda jerks. Apparently since I'm not in their department they are charging me $ $150 plus materials to print anything with a 3-4 week wait since it's not a priority. Not worth it, and I won't make the cut for Halloween.

Looks like I'm going with a foam build for now, UNLESS someone here who has access to a printers wants to help? Hmm? HMM? I can pay for materials, shipping, etc. And if you want, I am an avid homebrewer with a keen interest in making interesting beers. I would be willing to create a custom recipe for someone as another form/additional form of payment. Pumpkin stout, Peanut butter porter, Raspberry Hefeweizen, if you can think of it I can probably make it.

Any takers? In the mean time I'll be cutting into my foam.

I've recently picked up Sketchup as a quicker way of rapidly prototyping things like the earpiece, since I found 3d Studio Max a bit tedious. It's worth learning!

Made this smaller and got a resistor in theer to dim it to acceptable levels. I think it works well enough! Can't take an in-focus picture to save my life, though.

Re: Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 10/3 - Light up earpiece, because why not?

That looks so awesome, definitely better now that it's been scaled down a bit and the resistor has been put in.

Re: Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 10/3 - Light up earpiece, because why not?

Looks awesome! You are crazy good at just banging this stuff out!

Re: Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 10/3 - Light up earpiece, because why not?

Awesome looking so far. Yeah Sketchup is a bit easier to use then 3D Max, i have both, i do my basic modeling in sketchup then i bring it into Max once in a while. But i use mostly Sketchup and Vue to landscaping for architecture renderings

Re: Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 10/3 - Light up earpiece, because why not?

I added the earpiece download links to the OP, as well as Shapeways. I'll paint mine tomorrow, but I think I'm done playing with the design of it for now.

In other news...

I got some snap-action switches and they have solved the lower barrel button-pushing problem for me. I fit everything together today just to do a dry run, and I think we're good! I just have to cut some clear acrylic for the bottom barrel and install the RGB LEDs... and a bit more sanding. Always a bit more sanding. But hey, the blaster opening mechanism still works, so I consider that a win. More on the blaster tomorrow, hopefully.

Epicness! Can't wait to see the gun all painted.
By the way, what 3d printer do you have?

Oh man that earpiece looks fantastic!

As well as everything else you do, of course.

Re: Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 10/3 - Light up earpiece, because why not?

Count me in for an earpiece along with the orb and stand if they go up in the junkyard. Epic work.

Awesome work on the earpiece. I think you nailed the brightness. What size and style of resistor did you use?

Don't know the mcd of the LED, since it's one I had lying around, but after a bit of testing I found that a 650~ish ohm, 1/4w resistor dialed it back to a comfortable level.

Re: Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 10/3 - Light up earpiece, because why not?

I printed out the ear piece today. It came out pretty good but supports should probably be used

Re: Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 10/3 - Light up earpiece, because why not?

Yeah, sorry if I was unclear, but I did print mine with supports as well due to the internal cavity required for the batteries. Looks like you got a pretty good finish on it, though. Is the backside all droopy sans support? :D

Re: Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 10/3 - Light up earpiece, because why not?

Thanks. But no finish was used. This is straight out the printer. It is very droopy. Some of the holes are clogged up from the droopiness. But nothing too bad. Should be able to clear it out with a little extra work.

Re: Star Lord w/ lights and sound - 10/3 - Light up earpiece, because why not?

Is there anyway that i could find someone out there willing to make me a Star Lord Mask, Blasters and Foot Thrusters? id pay :)

You need to create a post in the Want to Buy section.
