Star Lord Sony MDR 5a Replica

I'm trying to find a way to build a replica of the Sony MDR-5a earphones that Star Lord used so I can save about $1000. I'm looking to use an existing pair of headphones, and I need some suggestions as to what brand/model I should use to best achieve rhe correct look. Any help is appreciated.

Hey. Just saw this as I was doing my semi customary check for potentially cheaper MDR-5a’s. Not sure if you have had any success, but I recreated a pair using some 3D printed items from shapeways. They actually turned out really well considering it was the first real prop item I’ve ever made. Here is a link to one of the pieces and the rest can be found on the page. All told it cost me about $100 for all the pieces.
