Stand aside for the glory that is DOOM!

Well, now I have a deadline for this suit. The last week of May. Because on June 8-10th, Stan Lee will be here in my hometown signing at a convention. And it's my plan to have him sign my helmet while I'm in costume!

Alright, another question in a different direction. *As I stated earlier, I have planned on using the 1/2" anti fatigue mats for the material for my armor. But what should I do for the gauntlets? They need to be fitting around the wrist, but also wrap around my forearm 100%, so there isn't any room for a zipper or laces. I had two thoughts, illustrated here:

First, have the gauntlet in one piece, with a simulated seam on one side, and the actual material opening on the other. I would use Velcro or magnetic tape to secure it. My issue lies with, will the repeated opening as closing on the foam warp the paint on the other side, or am I opening the gauntlet slightly enough to where the crease is negligible?

Second, I thought about two separate pieces, again being held together with either Velcro or magnetic tape contact cemented into place. This would negate the need to bend the foam, but would the magnetic tape be strong enough to keep the gauntlet together?

I am admittedly wary of Velcro, because of the force necessary to separate the two pieces I fear would warp and bend the foam.

Does anyone else have any suggestions??

I can't give any advice about th silicone because it never happened to me. Maybe some sort of scrub brush will get it off without too much damage.
Vinegar takes it off your hands, kinda. Maybe it would remove it from the piece.

Greg,
How's it going?
If it's still not curing, it's probably because Roma is a sulfur based clay, and impedes the curing of silicon.
OR...Did you seal it first with some Krylon Krystal Klear?

Brin, I did both. The clay is the same that I've always used, and I know it's sulphur free because it's what I made the Eye from. But I did seal it. So I have no idea, besides maybe it was applied too think and developed a skin, preventing the underlying silicone to react with the moisture. Not too sure. I think I'm going to peel off the skin, let the rest of the silicone cure, then redo it following the steps listed above from terryr.

Ugh, I hate backstepping. Hopefully there was no damage to the sculpt.

instead of velcro for the gauntlet, if the half shells are going to keep their shapes you could probably use rare earth magnets. They hold strong so they may work. IDK..

Yeah, I'm curious myself how it turned out? I'm totally interested in one if you get a run going.
