Well since i got the stan winston book, i've been wanting to sculpt one of the concept preds up that are in there, this one

I've decided to use water based clay for this one, thats what i taught myself to sculpt with, makes a change from plastilene, heres what i have after a couple of hours work, those big tusks are just in there for the pic, i'll be sculpting them in either sculpey or hard plastilene

Just playing around with textures at the moment, beauty of water clay is if you don't like it you can just wipe it off quickly and start again.
More to come

Thanks, hoping to get it finished soon, got a few projects on the go now so its slow going.

A few hours work. Is that the best you can do?
Only jesting mate. Awesome detail for such a short period of time and as hellboyattack said "wut a fresh sculpture here in lair!!"
Stan Winston's book is the business. Got it for Xmas 2006, best present ever.

Keep posting more pics please.

Thanks guys
I was going to go ahead and do a wolfie sculpt, but as you and a few others have allready done such great jobs with your own sculpts, i thought i'd tackle something a bit different.
With the crown, it looks like in the drawing its a large concave space, i added a 'bump' in there to put a bit more into it, i agree it needs filling out a bit more, don't know if i should add more to it or stick to the drawing, its the only part i don't really like about the design.

Looks great! I do not know if it needs built up more or if the eyes need set back. I think seeing so much white is what is throwing me. There is none in the sketch.

Thanks!

Greg

You've hit the nail right on the head so to speak. Your dislike for the forehead is probably the same reason Winston rejected it in favour of the Pred we all know and love. He looks much more macho and aggressive. Nonetheless it's still a cool bit of sculpting, so keep going.

i love it! your work on that makes me wonder - have you thought about maybe sculpting the first drawing in that sequence in the future? it's so different and just weird... would be cool to see in 3D.

Looking good mate

It's great to see a different style Predator sculpt for a change

keep us posted

Agreed, i like the way yours looks either way, water clay scares me though hehe, im forever bumpin into my sculpts or slipping id wreck a water clay sculpt in no time hehe.

Keep us posted eh

Lol, thanks everyone
Well i did a bit more this afternoon, i changed the forehead as i just didn't like the big flat empty space, i agree thats probably why it didn't get used, i also started changing the eyes, still got loads to do but i like it better now, has a klingon vibe to the fod now i look at it.

The kids are of this week so i've had them tidying up the shed, (workshop sounds grander but its a big shed), theres now a floor area and room to breathe, free slave labour, i love it

Another couple of sculpts in progress

More to come

I could do another one if this looks ok when its finished, we'll see how it goes, this was just my favourite of the concept drawings in the book.
