ST:NG Small phaser.

I am contemplating on making one of the small phasers from Star Trek The Next Generation. I've got some reference, and all that. Is there any interest, or have there been so many of these out there that they're pretty easy to find?

I'm going to be finishing mine up today, and will post some pictures.

Not very relevant to the cricket phaser, but that is one of the cooler "you can't hotlink to these pictures or see these thumbnails" I've seen.

I've always wanted to get a hollow TNG type I, but I don't know anymore about electronics than- do not put a fork in a light socket... especially when it's still plugged in.

Static's okay, but I love lights on props... sound is a plus.

I will hopefully be posting some pics late tonight. The humidity here is making everything take forever to dry.

Pretty rough, but I thought I'd show the progress. It's apoxie sculpt, and takes a little longer to get things smoothed out. Not to mention the crappy walmart primer I forgot to shake up before I sprayed it.

I should have it done sometime tonight. Once I've done that, I'll make a waste mold, transfer it to wax, give it a final polish and set it up for the electronics. I plan on powering it with watch batteries, and have it light up. I still have to make the clear covering for the front, as well as the meter on the top. The two buttons on the top aren't done yet, and will likely be made out of sheet rubber.

What's the wax for? Why not resin?

Transfer it to wax to polish out all the imperfections, and then make a second mold for the resin casting.

Wax allows me to get a glass smooth finish, and set it up for electronics. I plan on making 2 different pieces. A plain dummy phaser, and the other which will be a working hero prop.

Have ya taken a look at one of those Stapleton kits? seems pretty clean, and can take the electronics from one of the galloob releases pretty well.

Playmates was way too big, Galoob (made during the first season) was actually the right size. The dimensions were a bit off though.
