SS Tie Bomber Machined parts (interest for another run?)

Hi guys,

There seems to be quite an interest by members who are currently building Tie Bombers, and those that wish to in the future.

I'm going to offer and see what the interest is in a basic parts set for people to build their own but have some of the basic parts machined for them.

The set would contain the central tube with a diameter of 19.1mm (cut to correct length and machined on the ends), the 2 body tubes (cut to correct length and machined on the ends and with the holes machined through for the central tube and also the grooves on both tubes machined in as well, the centre box that sits between the 2 body tubes (machined acrylic with the centre hole machined through and a mounting point hole-1/4" or 6.35mm in metric put in underneath to fit panavise thread mounts), and also the set would contain the internal wing hub parts (those pesky pieces made up of 4 round parts) also machined!.

Body tubes and central tube are Plastruct items that I will have on hand anyways and the other parts are acrylic.

This will give, I feel, builders a good start on their builds and take away some of the hard work in scratching this prop!.

I will as well offer any parts needed individually to members and don't feel you have to purchase an entire set!.

PM me if interested

Stu

i would be interested pending the final price ;)
and this would for sure be a great start for building a SS bomber

Re: SS Tie Bomber Machined parts

Hi guy's,

Ok, worked out a price for the full set and it will be US$125 plus postage.
This price includes all that I have described plus I will need to place styrene onto the centre box to make sure everything is ok in lining up that area!.
I'm really doing this for not much in it for me at all, but no worries folks!.
I just can't justify the cost to you guy's if I added in the true labor costs, ouch!

What I will ask now is confirmation from all that have indicated they want a set and payment via Paypal so I know who's serious and I don't end up with a lot of unsold sets, sound fair?.
PM me and I will give you my PP addy

PS- For those that wish aluminium parts such as the centre box we will have to work out a different price as it will be considerably more!.

Thanks

Stu

Stu,
do you have a timeline/schedule on this? (ie when you want our interest, deposits, when these might be produced, and when they might land in our hands).
thx

Well, there's been one heck of a response to these sets with many orders taken, quite overwhelming really, but nothing we can't handle.
Part fabrication has started as a mass assembly line if you will, but I have had to do another Plastruct order for items I'm short of and restock due to the demand!.
At this stage all orders I would estimate will be out in 3-4 weeks.

If you contact me and want a set, it's always payment up front (I don't want a mass of sets left over because of non-payment) and I ask for shipping charges later just before I'm ready to post.

Re: SS Tie Bomber Machined parts (price now added)

Hi guys,

First run of these parts has exceeded expectations with the sets being made now and will be shipped in the stated time period and a second run has now started with some orders taken. This second run will be shipped in an estimated 6-8 weeks, maybe a wee bit sooner depending on materials arriving!.
It's really hard to gauge just how much materials to have on hand with the orders still arriving, but I'm confident no-one will miss out and I will keep churning out the sets until all orders are filled.

I'll post some pics soon of the Bomber assembly line for you guys to drool over lol!.

Re: SS Tie Bomber Machined parts (update guys)

Hey Guys, just an update on the sets and where we're at so far.

I will post pics this weekend of the assembly line with most of the parts having been fabricated. There's alot more work involved than I thought especially with the wing hub discs but really it's no problem and the work is progressing well.

Each set is identical, but each set will be individually tailored to get the best possible fit of all the parts that slide onto the crosstube, no loose fitting parts here guys!.

Cheers

Re: SS Tie Bomber Machined parts (update guys)

Stu,
Very smart (and very kind for the extra TLC) to match up the fits for each piece before you ship them out. I completely understand how even a precise machining needs some human eyes/checking before heading out the door.

great work!
