A 3 foot version of the 8 footer... since that is the SD we see the most throughout the movies as "the" SD, would be awesome.

I disagree - the 3 foot version of the 3 foot version.

However, the 8 foot does look cooler..

Id say if the do the ESB ISD, it would have to be scaled, building it is only half the nightmare, just imagine the logistical fiasco shipping her. I reckon 3ft scaled sounds cool.
The ANH version, could be done in studio scale, but even she would a bigger shipping problem than the Falcon as its reputed to be greater than 3ft in length anyways.
Id still love to see them pull it off though, what a sight, more exciting than the Falcon id say.

I'd love to see someone tackle the ANH 3 footer. I'd love to see MR do one, as is rumored, but they will probably botch it up and do ESB. Nothing beats the ANH pieces in my opinion.

Dave :)

That would tickle me too. 75% is good. But if they can do a 3 foot falcon, why not go for the 3 foot SD??? At least it makes sense to me. :) I seldom get what I want in this game.......LOL

Did you ever wonder why all the books call the ANH SD the "3 footer" when it is actually closer to 4 feet? Why is that?

Isn't it three feet wide Rick? Of all people,.. I know you'll be one of the men with the answers for the SD. ;)

So,.. do tell,...pleeeeeeeaaase? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

How about showing some pictures to everyone of the really detailed beastie you last built? It is a drooler for certain. :D

A quick note...

I too am a fan of the ANH beastie and hope it is done. I know of the appeal of the more detailed ESB SD, but when all is said and done, it is the ANH that always sticks in my mind. It changed film history with it's crawling overhead openeing shot. ;) THAT is the beastie I will have in the collection. :D

Although I have never seen the real thing in person :( I do know of someone who has :). According to him it is about 3 feet wide and about 50 - 54 inches long.

I built both of mine at 3 feet long. The one pictured below was my first attempt at scratch building, and on a very tight budget. I made no attempt to track down every last piece used in the original (I'd still be building it), I just made it up as I went. This was the result...

This is also the one that was used in 5-25-77. It will also be at WonderFest this year along with other models used in the film. ;)

Here (below) is the second one that I built, which is on tour with the museum exhibit "Action. An Adventure in Movie Making." It is more accurately proportioned, more detailed, yet I still had no desire to track down every last piece used in the original. The way I see it, if ILM could build two Star Destroyers with totally different detailing, then why can't I.

If I could just talk them in to opening up the case at the current museum display, I'd measure it for you all. ;)

By the way, Kurt, are you going to make it down to see the current display? or have you already? Keep n touch if you do.

I will definitely let you know if I head that direction Rob. :D I probably will not make it there anytime soon however. :(

What is the ending date of the display there? :confused I don't want to miss it and I am booked until the last two weeks of June. :unsure

Well,.. when I get there, ( and I say that with confidence in order to make it happen ;) ) ,.. we will have some awesome Star Wars geek time. :p And I will look forward to meeting you in person. :D
