Has anyone built the Testors 1/48th kit? Any good?

Believe it or not this is the best image I could get of the Testors.

Am I right in thinking that these are the same kit?

Is there a Tamiya kit? I saw this pic -

But that's all I've ever found!

I'm looking for something that is big enough (1/48ish) that it can be accurised if anyone has any suggestions.
Or if anyone knows of a good source of plans or blueprints. all the ones I found are very low on detail.

IED, the problem is that I'm not sure if any of the kits have accurate sizing and can't get hold of detailed plans.
Charlie Tuna, Thanks, looks like someone has had a lot of luck getting the larger format kits!

Let me see what I can do. We have one on static display here on base. I will be going in a day or two, I will take some pics for you.

I have built 3 of the Testors kits in my life and the last one was the best.
Sadly I do not have a photo now to post but if I find one I will edit this post with it.

All the raised panel lines need to be sanded off.

After they are sanded with progressively finer sand papers and polishing compounds airbrush the SR-71 with gloss black.

Let it dry completely and apply the decals.

Finally spray clear dull / matt coat to bring the black to a nice satin finish.

I also used bare metal foil to mask my windows and I picked up resin ejection seats for it to replace the kit seats.

When I was prepping the model for paint I closed the gear doors with Elmer’s glue and didn't install the afterburners until the SR-71 was almost finished.
That allowed me to have a means to hold it while painting.

Well there's quite a wealth of info out there, if I could only get my hands on it!
I found the perfect plans -

But the guy doesn't ship to the UK! Plus he's asking $45+ for a set. :(
I don't necessarily mind forking that out but as I've not seen any details or quality I'd be a bit wary. All I'd need is for a slight printing distortion and there goes the scale!

Anyhoo, I found this guy site - http://www.mmrca.org/lance/sledframe.html
And boy oh boy is he making a beauty!
He'd even give some of our RPF boys a run for their money! Check this out -

13ft!!! Okay it's for radio control but this thing has some major detailing.
I've already shot him an email asking what plans he's following. So with any luck I'll find out.

I am going to learn a lot from that guys work.
Awesome build photos.
