Squirrely's Beat up and toasty Viper...Lots of pics!

Hi there RPF!

I've been assembling models for years, ever since I was a munchkin! I'm more of a box builder than anything. I can't even come close to touching on some of the talented folks here on the board. So I guess you could call this a review from the eyes of an amateur builder.

What can I say? The model was super easy to assemble with plenty of details. The instructions will get you the model assembled, but not painted; granted it's a pretty simple color scheme (pssst it's white).

The trouble I had the most was with the decals, the red stripes to be exact. Given the opportunity, I think I would've taken the time to mask it off and paint the stripes on. The placement job that I did is horrendous. But i guess it will only add to the effect when I go ahead and weather it. In the mean time, here are some pics pre-weathered. I haven't attached the cannons just yet as i took these photos just as i finished applying all the decals.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics, i'll post some better ones when I get the paint finalized.

Thanks guys! Here's a little sneak peak of the weathering. Now that i'm at the office, I can take some better pics with a proper digital camera.

Thanks for the comments guys, as promised here are some better quality pics of the finished paint job.

The idea being that this viper has fought in nearly every sortie Galactica has experienced. Being the rag tag crew and all, I figured they wouldn't have bothered wasting precious resources to clean the fighters too well. So I figured a beat to hell version would make up for the ugly decal job I did.

I still need to add the muzzle scorches on the fuselage but i'll save that for another time. Not too sure how to get that look without an airbrush.

I think i'll pick up another kit and do an uber clean museum version and take my time masking off the red strips.

Oh, and if it looks like this thing has been way too close to some explosions, it's because it has. Like literally. I go for the authentic looking stuff :lol
