Spray Paint Advice

Ok, so I'm just onto painting my DropShip helmet and pulse rifle shrouds.

I am using spray can for them both.

Now heres the question. I see alot of people wet sand the object after painting. Is this necessary? Is this purely to get a nice shine, such as on a Vader helmet?

My dropship helmet seems to have a fine 'dust' over it....if i move a cloth or hand over it, it leaves a brown mark on my finger. Do i need to go over it with a soft damp cloth or something?

Also whats the best technique for over spraying. I believe the dropship helmet has a black overspray. Is this just a case of literally spraying above the helmet so the fine dust falls on to it?

Any advice would be great.

THanks

Wet sanding is really to achieve a nice smooth glossy finish. It's not necessary if your helmet is "rough and ready".

If there's brown stuff coming off when you touch the Drop ship helmet, give it a wipe with a damp cloth. I don't think there is any worry about your sprayed surface not being permanent! ( Unless you painted the helmet with poster paints or something....which is lunacy.)

Overspray is just as you thought.
Even with a cheapo £15.00 airbrush, you'll achieve much better weathering than trying to spray and pray from a rattle can.

C'mon, show us some pics!

Damn....you mean poster paints wont work?!

Back to square one.

lol...thanks for the advice given the helmet a quick wipe with a cloth, and the dust comes off nicely.

Pictures to follow!

Thanks again

When an airbrush is not available, warming the can in hot water (not boiling) for 2-5 minutes before spraying will attain a much better atomized pattern. Also, wiping the nozzle clean with solvent before spraying is good insurance when the can has been used before.
