Spray on Tint

I need to tint a couple of half-sphere to make a set of eyeballs that I can still see through. I bought a can of Night-shades, the stuff used to tint taillights and such from NAPA. I used it on the sphere and I couldn't see out of it. Any tips on what product will work? Am I somehow applying the night shade stuff incorrectly?

From what I've been told about that Night-Shades stuff you need to apply it in multiple very sparse, thin coats. And I've also been told that depending on what sort of plastic etc you spray it on to it sometimes has a habit of eating through certain materials so that is something to bare in mind as well.

Model Masters or Testors have window spray tint in their product lines. They come in 3oz cans for around 5-6 USD. Takes about 3 coats to get a nice dark tint and you can still see pretty good in a well lit area. You can find the Model Masters stuff at Hobby Lobby or both brands should be available at the hobby stores that specialize in RC cars and model making. Hope this helps.
