Sportacus PDA?

I'm stumped on this one...

As far as I can tell, I could only assume it was a travel clock with a notepad (or a big rubbery snooze button) in the center. However, all my searches have turned up, well, nothing. Travel alarms, PDAs, even notepads all give me nothing to work off of

I can only assume this is a found item, considering it's origins (a children's show on Nickelodeon) and the usual visual style of the wholly original props on the show. It's a one-time-use prop to boot, so that lessens the chances of it being built from scratch even more

Any of you seen anything similar?

The screen definitely looks as thought it could have been added on (and the actual glow was obviously done in post) however the buttons are visibly backlit throughout the entire clip, so it appears to have some working electronics

Hope I can get some info :)

It looks like some kind of extremely fancy (but cheap) note paper holder. If you look closely at the white blcok in the center, you can see the guide tabs that hold the note pad in place. And under the thumb, there looks to be some kind of hinged latch, probably to hold a small pen or pencil. This all just guess work, of course, so I'm probably way off base.

That was my initial thought, but the illuminated buttons above the pad just look too stock to me...

Maybe I'll just send an email to the show and hope for a response?

Oh well, I'll figure it out eventually

I would check out catalogs of trinkets that companies buy from for promotional and incentive giveaways. I have a clock/calendar that is of similar construction to that on my desk that our company gave us for Christmas last year. It doesn't have that unique shape (like a cellphone) nor a notepad on it though.

I've been searching various office sites, with no luck...

The screen can be fabricated easily enough, but I still need a base to work off of. The only reason I picked this prop to work on was because I figured it be an easy fix once the main piece was located. Doesn't look like that's happening, though

Any sites you recommend?

My daughter loves that show. It's not too bad for adults either. :)

Anyway, the show's made in Iceland so it's probably some device they have over there. Just a thought.

Yeah, my excuse was making one for the kids, but they all know I'm the one who really likes the show :D

My first thought was some random foreign office accessory, but I wanted to look around first before trying to learn Icelandic :rolleyes

Well, if this doesn't work out Sportacus has a crapload of other cool bits and pieces lying around for me to figure out, so no big loss

LMAO
I thought I was the only one who watched this show.
My sons love it but I have to admit I think it's pretty cool.

I wasn't admitting to watching it. :lol Just that the times I have to, it's tolerable. I thought it was CG, but they are puppets.

My son was Sportacus last Halloween - I had to make the bulk of the custume out of foam in about 6 hours (he changed his mind at the last minute). Luckily, there was a pre-made costume that I could add to :)

No idea what that thing is, but like others have said, it is filmed entirely in Iceland...who knows what they have there.

Todd

Yeah, my little brother's probably going to be Sportacus for Halloween... although as far as I can tell, making his costume from scratch would actually be cheaper than buying the official costume. I've seen those things go up to $75 on eBay.

Oh well, I'll just file this away and pick up on my other stuff

FYI, Sportacus was originally produced in New Zealand, so the items in question may originate from there. In the prop shop that I work at during the day, we have make Sportacus' belt and buckle, chest emblem, and some other buckles I never see on the show.
BTW, in his native land, Sportacus is also officially known as "The Sports Fairy".

Holy crap, any chances of some measurements on Sportacus' buckle/chest symbol? From the pictures I've seen it looks like it's a black plastic backing with the silver/blue greeblies and 'S' added on top, and the '10' another layer on top of that, but hi-res reference is scarce. Any clue as to how it attaches to the vest?

No clue how it attaches to the costume. The number 10 is just a resin casting, it's probably glued to a flat plate that's sewn to the chest of the costume. The "S" belt buckle (if I remeber correctly) has a rectangular metal ring casted into the back since it is resin too, and the costume people just sew their belt to that.

Oddly, I remember we made an awesome belt for him, it had segmented sections, looked really cool and heroic, but the one time I watched the show (couldn't stand it) I didn't see the belt, only the buckle. And I didn't see the weird shoulder buckles we made for him either.

Well, I was actually thinking about the buckle, and I think having the full belt on would inhibit his movement too much for him and his stuntmen to confortably do their moves. But what's this about shoulder buckles? He's got some weird vents running along the top and sides of his vest, but this is all new to me

Thanks for the info so far, it should be useful :D

Maybe those are the things we make. They're sort of rounded, they look like they'd go on the fender of an old car or something.
Scott

Yes. Those are them. They hid small buckles, like luggage or purse buckles.
The number 10 on his chest is definately different than the one we made, and the belt buckle looks a little different too.
I guess I've got to snap ome pic's.

Aha. I was wondering how his backpack attached. Sportacus' backpack just kinda hangs off his back. I had thought it might be attached to those, but dismissed it. Nice to know those things are functional :D

Anyway, there was an ep where another character had disguised himself as Sportacus, and had a slightly different chest symbol, with no 'S', a grid, and different blue bits, I think, so that might have been it. And another ep where the girl pictured was a superhero as well, and had her own chest symbol, so there's at least two possibilities right there

Thanks for the info so far.

My chest oval with the #10 on it measure 5-5/8 inch across by 3-11/16 of an inch high. The "S" belt buckle measure 4-7/16 of an inch wide by 2-1/2 inches tall.
NeonSentry, I'm sending you a PM.
