Split Second Shotgun, To repair or not?

Firstly hi all, long time follower first time poster.

I recently purchased what i believe is the Gatling Shotgun from the 1992 movie 'Split Second'. i know everything about the gun and have checked and scaled in detail from stills etc the one i now have and it all fits so in my mind it can only be authentic even though it has no paperwork to prove it.
When the gun arrived it was as described a no longer functioning prop. All of the electronic parts are however in place with the barrel's being rotated by and old Black and Decker 9018 electric screwdriver. my question is do i repair it? the screwdriver is underpowered and manages only a quarter rotation of the very heavy barrels before giving up (in the movie it is only once seen rotating in this way as well) should i replace this with a newer unit so it spins up properly and also re do the paint etc as it is now rusty and scratched as can be seen in the pics or do i leave it as just a simple wall hanger. I am a great fan of the film and have loved this gun since seeing it and now part of me feels it would ruin and its history to repair it and the other part of me would love to see it run.

At least don't do anything to the paint, the wear&tear it has seen defines it as much as it's shape does.

I'm not too purist to not allow the update of electronics at least.

The only issue with that is the fact the the bulbous rear section in front of the grip is actually the back of the screwdriver. I'm sure I can find a way to modify this to remain. Also as you can see in the picture there is a detail plate missing from the side of the forward grip that I will have to learn how to replicate from the one on top of the main body (personally I'm new to all the modelling aspect of this stuff being as I'm an electrician by trade) also the mag lite is missing so I need to locate one of those to get it back to its original glory

I too am a long time lurker, but I had to sign up to comment on this...I saw it on the Bay too,I couldn't place it but was going to bid,but it went a wee bit high
well done for knowing it came from Split Second. Now I can sleep!

That is a cool gun. can't comment as to restoration. still just a learning beginner myself. but it is a wonderful looking piece...

Sean..

could you find a drill motor that right size and make a copy of that back end so it is the same? i wouldn't paint it though. This is a very under rated movie.

Finally managed to get her running, the setup was a 1990's black and decker 9018 1.2v screwdriver with a wall charger solder on to it, I managed to find one randomly at a local car boot sale so now she runs, so chuffed and no I won't be painting it, your all right it looks better this way.

Finally got confirmation that this is the real deal. They apparently only made one practical effects shotgun with the others being either the heavy rubber or light weight moulded versions. Hope to have a letter of providence from the films main armorer soon so the coa can be issued. Totally chuffed with this news.

Congratulations on an amazing score. That is just awesome. You did exactly right. Fixed it to work but otherwise leave it.

Congrats again.

I hope you don't mind me showing off a bit in your thread. It is just so rare to see Split Second fans.

This is the first Split Second gun I made. Had to sell it when things got tough but I am going to build another one. It's only the second accurate one I have seen. Our own SD Studios made the other one.

Congrats again.
