Spider-Man: Homecoming

Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)

Well, originally Peter was a high school kid. Personally, I think if they are going to do him as a high school kid, then they ought to get a high school age kid to play him. So I would have no problem with this guy.

Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)

That era of Spider-Man holds the least interest for me. I get why they might want to portray him as a high school kid so that they can age the character up, but realistically, I like it much better when Peter is a photographer for the Bugle, working his way through college.

Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)

Asa is 18 years old and pics from 2015 make him look a bit older than those from the Ender's Game era (which most press seemed to run) - he seems like a perfect pick to play Spidey. I do believer Peter was already selling pics to the Bugle prior to college...

...and at the very least we appear to be skipping another origin story.

And in that I do 100% agree.

Best news I got from that is there will be more Ender's Game movies. THAT was a great flick and Steve Jablonsky did a great job on the score for that one. One of my favorites.

I could care less if Butterfield plays Spider-Man. I thought Andrew Garfield was good int he first one. The second movie was bleh and he didn't contribute nearly as much as he did the first time. McGuire did great for the first two movies... 3 was just a train wreck.

I get burned out on all the recasting of a character in such quick succession. So... whatevs.

Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)

I'm glad they're going young.
Asa is a good choice.

Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)

They did a decent job with Ender's Game aside from a couple weird changes (the fight with Bonzo mainly). I wonder how they're going to do sequels though. He was supposed to be 30s or so for Speaker for the Dead, but I would love to see a movie based on it. The whole Shadow series is amazing too, but they really glossed over Bean in the first movie

Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)

I'm more afraid about what Marvel might do with Spider-Man than what Sony might do with him. Sony’s been bad with everything else but they choose great actor’s and make great costumes. I'm pretty sure disney makes the Ultimate Spider-Man TV show and I can't stand that show, I'm generally afraid of child actor's because I'm too young (too relatable to them) and too self loathing to want to see them. I was going to suggest if they had to use a young actor it should be the kid from Hugo but then I realised he was the rumoured actor.

I'm pretty sure I heard his costume is actually going to look like it was made by a kid. I like the idea of it being made in a teens idea of "cool" store bought pieces, instead of the usual costume, but I still want it to be tailored, quality and beautiful. It’d be awful if it were just a poorly sewn, fleece, traditional costume. Especially seeing as peter would have all these Super-Hero role models with great constantly changing costumes to take inspiration from.

The way I see it there are three age options. 14-15, 16-17 and College/University age. I dislike it when the films just kick Peter out of School or college after one film so he should be young enough to stay in his place of learning for a few films. I’m really conflicted about what’d be best for his first film. If he’s young and less of Peter is shown, he’ll develop alongside the Avengers better but he won’t feel like the most welcome addition and’ll be less of a role model. If he’s Still young but we see more of him we’ll finally get more plots related to Flash, Aunt may and Obscure villains instead of his love life but it’ll blend strangely with the rest of the Avengers. If he’s older And we see less of Peter, there’ll be really no need for him and he’ll just be boring and slightly less annoying but if he’s older and we see more of Peter it’d make a lot of sense with Iron Man announcing to the world as Peter Parker but then he’d have no reason to pick Iron Man's side anyway.

It’d be perfect if Spidey was in the Avengers After credit scene so he could just show up at the very beginning of Civil War for fifteen minutes by himself so he can be developed just enough to bring context to his character without spoiling too much so then some proper decisions could be made.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Avengers interact with a kid.
I especially want to see how Tony interacts with him - I expect lots of thinly-veiled insults and sarcastic condescension.
Also Cap - I can totally see Steve taking the kid under his wing.
I can't wait. I think it'll be fun.

Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)

I can understand their interest in "comedy directors." They're basically looking for folks who can do character-work. Favreau, Russo Brothers and James Gunn were basically comedy directors who understood character.

I've known Spider-Man as both a high school character and a college character. I like both iterations. After multiple films and reboots it'll be a refreshing departure to see this classic take on him for a change. And with all this ridiculous debate on getting out solo female superheroes or black superheroes I think a teenage superhero could be worth seeing.

Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)

50/50 certainly had comedic moments, but I wouldn't put it on the same level as comedies like Adam Sandler schtick or even other Seth Rogen comedies. I see the interest.

TOTALLY THIS!!!!
Tony's interaction with the kid in IM3 was great, and the end with the renovated garage shop shows he's got a soft spot for the kid made it that much cooler.
It would also be cool to have Tony talking down to a kid... and then have the kid be able to pick him up in the Iron Man suit, with one hand, just to put things into perspective for Stark.
"Everything special about you came from a bug".

It would be cool to see a kid version of Spider-Man with a homemade costume that isn't the awesome one we're used to getting, and then have either Tony or S.H.I.E.L.D. make him a better one (they made Cap's after all) once he joins the team.

Having said that, what's the youngest cosplayer around that's made a Spider-Man costume? Having been on this site for almost two years now I know it's possible for a young person to make something amazing.

Sony hasn't done an awful job with Spider-Man... they just take it too far and lose site of what's fun about it somehow. Raimi nailed it with the first two, the sequel actually being better than the first one. The first Webb movie was great... while the second one tried to cram too much into one movie.

I feel like movies about a singular hero get ruined when they throw in too many villains... like the 80's-90's Batman movies. Did nobody learn from Schumacher's failings?

Always wanted to see Warm Bodies [...] but never got around to it.

Do. I was skeptical, but then I was pleasantly surprised by it. It's probably the best adaptation of Romeo & Juliet I've seen (better than Shakespeare's, IMO), the movie does an even better job of it than the novel, and for something that was inspired by poking fun at Twilight, it's an all-round good, solid film and story.

I would love to see Asa get the part. I enjoyed his portrayal of Ender, and I think if they end up doing a crossover film with the Avengers that he could hold his own. I am actually getting interested in Spiderman again.
