Spectre

Craig said on the Today show that he made that comment about slitting his wrists closely after filming wrapped. He said something along the lines of asking a marathon runner to run another marathon right as they cross the finish line. I actually completely understand that.

Yeah, I get that too. I don't blame him for making the comments he did. I have mostly enjoyed his run as Bond. Casino Royale still stands as my favorite Bond film.

I also knew though, as soon as I read his negative comments that he was eventually going to back track. Especially if Spectre was a big hit. Again, that is understandable.

My Review of Spectre

The Good:

* Lea Seydoux - She's not just gorgeous, but she possesses a timeless European beauty, very reminiscent of Connery-era Bond girls. She was the most memorable part of the film.

The Bad:

* Daniel Craig - My beef with Daniel Craig is the same as it's always been. He looks Russian! He does not look like a Brit, he does not look like James Bond! He looks more like Vladimir Putin than James Bond. Daniel Craig, with his eastern European features, and no bodyfat, looks like he should be playing a henchman for a Bond villain. Plus, he's too fracking short. Every James Bond actor has been 6' 2" tall, except Roger Moore who was 6' 1". Daniel Craig is a very un-James Bond 5' 10". And also, Daniel Craig has absolutely no charm. He's great as a cold-hearted killer. But he cannot deliver a humorous quip or a suave wink to save his life.

* Christoph Waltz - Even though his character was totally under-developed, and much of his dialogue was rambling and boring, Christoph's immense talent still makes him compelling to watch. But God, what a wasted opportunity. Very, very disappointing they didn't give him a great script to work with.

* The Score - If you've read any of my previous posts in this thread, you know I have a MAJOR beef with recent Bond movies, for not inter-weaving the traditional Bond theme music throughout the musical score and movie. Spectre had an auspicious beginning, when James left his Mexican date, Estrella, to traverse the rooftops to assassinate a bad guy, and over the scene was the traditional Bond theme. I was like, "Thank God! They're finally gonna use the Bond theme throughout a film again!". The next time we heard the Bond theme was when the end credits rolled. Major, major fail. (And that's not even mentioning the Sam Smith Spectre theme, which is the worst of the entire franchise.)

* Too much else to list - I'm depressed thinking about it.

I liked Casino Royale well enough, but still no match for the best films in the franchise (Live and Let Die, Goldfinger, From Russia With Love, Dr. No). Spectre is better than Quantum of Solace and Skyfall, but both of those installments were positively dreadful, so that is not saying much at all. The only thing good I can say about Daniel Craig as James Bond is that he's not a wimp, unlike the way-too-effeminate actor he succeeded.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I did listen to the soundtrack and I gotta say, it made me more and more mad with every track. Not once did it properly use the Bond theme. One track built and built to a point that it almost got there and then it just ended and I was like WTF!!! I got so mad. Made me miss the old days.

I'm sure I'll hardly notice it watching the movie, but sans picture it was very noticeable.

Righhht??! I haven't listened to the soundtrack, but having watched the movie, and specifically listening for the traditional Bond theme music since the under-utilization of it is a major pet-peeve of mine, there were a couple times when I could hear traces of it, building (like you said), and then it's gone, and all that's left is run-of-the-mill Hollywood drama/action movie music.

WHO THE FRACK ARE THESE PEOPLE MAKING THESE BOND MOVIES THAT THEY DON'T USE THE TRADITIONAL BOND MUSIC IN THE FRACKING FILMS?!?!

Just got back from watching it, Overall, I enjoyed it, a little too long perhaps and have to agree about the non classic Bond music.
I would like to know where he got the Sig 226 that he shows Madeleine on the train, Why would he not use his PPK to teach her?

In the last movie his ppk was rigged to explode if someone than himself used it. Maybe that is why.

I thought it was a 'spare' he was giving her to defend herself.

The PPK is still his main weapon. The Sig is only seen in the train scene, where he gives it to Madelaine.

I think Casino Royale and Skyfall are two of the best Bond films ever. I can't believe you would put SPECTRE ahead of Skyfall as it's not even close as to which one is the better film. I think the only thing we can definitely agree on is that QoS sucked.

Old news is old but just having caught the flick, I want to throw in my two cents.

Overall, I thought it was alright. For the most part, it's the fun, spectacle Bond movie I've been waiting to see since the series came back. It's got a megalomaniac villain (and bonus Jaws-esque thug) and a big, bad, dastardly criminal organization bent on world domination. Finally, Bond doing patented Bond shiz! However, I totally see what everybody gripes on about this movie. The script just plods along going from one grand vista to the next with some flimsy sinew connecting them all, passing itself off as a story, and the romance is utterly pointless. Really, at this point, we all know Bond girls never stick around for one movie; why even bother trying to make some romance subplot?

My biggest problem is still the problem I had in the beginning: Daniel Craig as Bond. I don't know how else to say this, but he's a brutish, empty, robot. I've never bought him as Bond, especially, in these movies. He lacks that debonair, sardonic charm that I feel a great Bond actor needs, and in this movie, it really proves that. The movies have been so busy making him "intense" and moody that now that they're trying to do more classic Bond stuff, bringing brevity into the show, it doesn't work because Craig can't deliver it. He's like a gorilla playing a violin when it comes to those moments: it breaks as soon as he touches it. It also doesn't help that as soon at the movie starts, he and everyone else in the movie are bored out of their minds. The performances literally could've been done through the telephone, that's how unenthusiastic everyone was.

All in all, it ain't perfect but it also isn't terrible. I bought most of it solely on the fact that it was trying to be something original instead of modelling itself off of the popular movie at the moment--*cough*SkyfallwasacompleteBatmanripoff*cough*-- and had as much fun as I could with what was done. Craig has one more Bond film, if I recall what he was contracted to do, and it can't come sooner. I'm ready for another Bond and one that hopefully drops all these familial connections crap and each film doesn't focus on Bond wanting to stop being a spy.

Really enjoyed the fact that they FINALLY opened with e gun barrel sequence!
Overall I liked it. But seriously, Sam Smith, what the actual crap?????? :wacko :facepalm when I heard all the complains aimed at it I just had to hear it and buy were those complains well-founded.

Watch it last night and didn't care for it all. After all these years from the new bond movies of how crazy controlling spectre was. It basically boiled down to a dude who had daddy issues and jealously of the new kid. The main goon was a tard. Hex is gonna be muscles and brains..my bowl of frosted shredded wheat was smarter than him. He comes in and kills a guy sitting down at a table. Kidnaps the chick while he sees bond. Doesn't even think about attacking bond. Oh my boss wants you, but mango don't know where choo choo goes, only pawn in the game of life. ( which is funny since fights on strain and mr, white died with a chess board on the table) oh he can drive a car too. Waste of space goon..stick to wrestling

I was hoping for more out of Mr. white. It was a shame to see him like that since he always was powerful man of mystery. Oh well.

love interest was terrible and why would you even care about her. Didn't like to see her at end driving away with bond. Should have used some random chick he is gonna bang tonight, keep his heart only for Vespa.

monica looked terrible, body still rocking. But man oh man break out the paper bag. Her face looked jacked up. I didn't know if that was her during the close ups or Mickey Rourke. Should have Rachel weisz instead like it seem they might of gone with at one point.

i enjoy Craig as bond. I don't really see the hate for him so much as others do. He can do another one and I'll be cool with it. Just Make the story better next time.

On the back of all the rumours that Craig will not be making another Bond movie, if you get the chance watch "The Night Manager". Its out in the US (mid April) on AMC , and its a BBC production but you'd never think it. Its based on the John Le Carre novel, but updated . Tom Hiddleston is brilliant as is the rest of a rather strong cast . I never thought Tom would be a good Bond but this TV series is starting to really convince me. The first episode is a kind of slowish introduction but damn it drags you in very swiftly. Its starting to look like a six hour Bond lite movie. The other guys who are being touted as the next really don't seem a perfect match, some are closer than others but TH performance in this really does deliver a knockout punch .

Craig will be back for the next film. He already stated that he wants to do one more. Only his wife Rachel isn't a big fan of him doing it. She is concerned over his health and safety. Craig likes to do his owns stunts for the movies. I would bet that he'll sign on for it only if he has a stunt double for the stunts. That way both him and the wife would be happy. She will likely make a cameo too.

tom is a great actor as well. He wouldn't be a bad choice to replace Craig if it came to that.

I like all the Bond actors and I'm very happy with one more from Craig. Though I must say Spectre would be a fine exit if it ends up his last.
