Space:1999 being rebooted as "Space:2099"

Oh, I so don't like the new Eagle. The Eagle is one of the most classic spaceship designs in sci-fi history. One of the smartest things they did on the newer BSG series was to keep the Vipers looking for the most part as we remembered them. Sure, they changed the design (and made it much smaller) but it still had the classic look we all loved as kids.
I lucked up this past weekend and found two of the die-cast 1/72 scale Eagles from Asia (the ones that are going for about 300 bucks on ePay, I paid a LOT less than that) and I showed one to my wife. Never having seen one before, even she agreed that if NASA brought that model out and said they'd be building full-sized ones and would be hopping around the Moon with it in ten years, it looked totally plausible even now.

Those extensions look like chicken wings. Like the Eagle´s got his wings scolded with hot water ... but let´s wait and see if it´s just the perspective that´s playing tricks ...

Doubtless they'll throw out the one thing the series really did have going for it (apart from the Eagles): the 2001 influence, the sense of space being cold, terrifying, metaphysical etc. Even the sterility of the characters is in a way kind of 2001-like, though of course they're horribly ham-fisted next to Stanley's. Hard to imagine anyone in TV today taking any cues from the tone of 2001...

I second that.....and .........actually.........don't touch the eagles at all!!!
Just get rid of the flares and the cuban heel boots!

How gay do I sound!!!??? :lol

Isn't that how the explosion originally happened? A huge electrostatic spark caused by the swishing of dangerously unearthed nylon flares? It was along time ago. Perhaps I misremember it.

Anyone have any updated info on this?

well, according to their website blog the latest from just a few weeks ago was that they are "still working on it" whatever that means... :D probably still trying to drum up money to get a pilot shot to sell it. :facepalm

If I ever win the lottery this, Blake's Seven and Dan Dare's film rights would all be bought, funded and filmed and would all have Karen Gillan in. :)

Since I was a bit young when this was on, I thought the moon base was just the interior of an Eagle and they were always flying around in space.

the design of the eagle still holds up today. looks very much like something NASA would build. Liked the show very much when I was a kid... sometimes I get nostalgic for it... youtube helps with that. :popcorn

Man, DRAGONS DOMAIN was 100% Grade A Primordial Awesome. "Hey, let's do H.P. Lovecraft in space, it'll be mad brilliant!" A far better conceptual ancestor to ALIEN than PROMETHEUS...

That alien gave me nightmares. The way the bodies shot out, I thought the alien attached them to skateboards.

After Battlestar are they going to start rehashing all of the old shows?

Fireball X L 5 is probably next
