Space:1999 (2010 Halloween project)

This year I've been working on making two costumes from the first season of Space:1999, and props to match. Here's some pictures and comments from the build, and then some completed shots.

Here's getting started with some scratch made patterns:

Deciding on a material to use took a while. I found that what appears to be the proper material, a wool stretch blend, is still available. But not cheap. And since we'll be wearing these in southern California, and then storing them in a closet for extended periods of time, I chose not to use the correct wool. Instead, I went with a cotton blend 'jersey' material. Much less expensive...

For the shoes, I picked up some boots that weren't too far off at the thirft store. Painted them with some Meletonian 'Bone' and modified the tall boots to fit better.

[

I made two (slightly undersized) Commlocks, a stun gun (I already had a resin one) and an obscure case, seen only in "The Guardian of Piri", to allow us to carry non-cannon items (wallets, cell phones, camera...) with us.

So here's what they look like all done:

And a couple where I've actually used the green screen to put in a background....

These costumes more recently got used at the 2016 Brit-Week party, with other British Sci-Fi outfits:

Thanks for looking!

Quick! There's a force field over that poor womans face! She can't breathe!

I kid I kid!

Amazing job, how long did this take you? I only watched a few mins of this ages ago, but was shocked I was able to recognize it off the bat. How long will that paint hold up on those boots?

Thanks UFO!

I don't take commissions, but I'd certainly share any secrets of how I made something... (Both the warrior tunic and jacket took more than one try...)

Here's a thread (over to Sci-Fi Hero) with a couple more photos of the 'crossover jacket':

BTW, I forgot to mention this (while I was having a bellbottom flashback) but... Nice Job!

I loved Space: 1999 (had a very warm fuzzy spot for Catherine Schell) and this just makes me all kinds of happy. It's nice to see people still remember and enjoy that show.

... How long will that paint hold up on those boots?

It's the same type of paint I used on my BSGtos boots- There it seems to hold up pretty well, flaking a little where the leather flexes. Of course with the warrior boots it's a dark brown (cordovan) over black, so even when it comes off a bit it's not very obvious. With these, I'll have to see what they look like after a few hours of walking around in them. They're almost entirely hidden by the bell bottoms, though, so I'm not too worried...

Dude, you are one hell of a costumer.

And those hand made wooden props. Fantastic.
