Soylent Green - My Collection

After some discussion on another forum, i decided to put together some
Soylent Green props.
The helmet is a vintage Wilson and the visor is off a vintage Bell helmet.
The chinstrap came off a lacrosse chinstrap and modified. The id wallet
is from the Larchmont police and i removed the Larchmont embossing with nail polish remover
and works fine without adding anything.
Thanks to Thomas for the id ground work.
Hope you like it.

Cool collection! I remember seeing the movie waaaay back when I was young in the 70's. I need to rent it and watch it again, it's been a long time since I've seen it.

"The scoops are on their way!"

Great work; I love it! Bonus points if you know what Soylent stands for.

Cheers guys,
My aim is to have a collection based around the golden era of cinema that filled us all with hope of a better tomorrow, so to speak.

The list includes,

Soylent Green
The Planet of the Apes
Beneath the Planet of the Apes
The Omega Man
Rollerball
Dark Star
Blade Runner
Escape from New York
Alien
Mad Max
Mad Max 2
They Live

Would be very interested to hear about other collections along these lines.
Tim.

Thats a great thread and was a big help and inspiration.
Thanks for the blu ray and soundtrack info MFP 2020, Im into soundtracks as well, got about 6 different Blade Runner versions.

Would love a Santini for Govenor poster, hopefully someone will make one and the only other thing i want to add to the collection is the
JVC Videoshpere TV in Tabs apartment. Apart from the videogame, its the only display of "futureistic" technology in the movie.
Its one of those things that i will just bump into one day. There was a screen accurate one for auction the other week for $240US.

Love the props, and the film:cool
“It's people. Soylent Green is made out of people. They're making our food out of people. Next thing they'll be breeding us like cattle for food. You've gotta tell them. You've gotta tell them!”

We've never been able to 100% confirm the identity of the artist or the origin of this piece, but the current thinking it is concept art from "Soylent Green":

I acquired this piece from the old, now defunct, MGM casino back in 1990 (the one that had the fire back in the early 80's). Down in the basement was a generic movie memorabilia tourist trap-type shop. In fact, the carpeting still had the old MGM logo on it (which was my first clue to the history of the place).

Aside from the usual movie star items and fake Oscars were a couple of bins of old artwork. Virtually none of it was labeled, save for whatever production # or name was written on it by the artist. I picked a few assorted pieces, this one being the only sci-fi looking piece that was left.

Some other collectors have confirmed that after the MGM auctions of the early 70's, a large supply of artwork was sold through the casino's "gallery". More than likely, they just drove a truck over with the stuff and dumped it on someone else's doorstop. Some friends were able to obtain original "Forbidden Planet" and "2001" concept art (or ad artwork) from the same location in the early 80's.

A few years ago, I was doing a retrospective of "Soylent Green" here in L.A. and as I was watching the film, I noticed more than a passing resemblance to the end of the film where Heston is creeping around the factory.

Might not be, but it looks close. And it looks good framed on my wall.

As another piece of trivia, I was having lunch one day at this restaurant in Marina del Rey and notice the condo building next to the Marina is the apartment in the film:

I suspect the apartment itself was a set, but the lobby and the exterior was shot here.

Many thanks Moocriket and apollo.

Thats a great piece Gene, thanks for shareing. Have you tried to track down anyone from the art dept on the movie? Also, was the print you screened
at the retrospective a new one?
