Hey all,

We're currently building a few new furniture art commission pieces. I don't yet have teaser pics to share on the stuff being fabricated right now, but keep your eyes on the website for a sleek, custom-designed metal and leather oversized chair and some space-age custom metal corner units...

For today, I have pics of some other furniture concepts that we came up with and are pretty proud of: A TDK Batman themed desk, a T-Rex dig site desk or bar and a Mayan Temple desk for the adventure crowd.

More info and concept pics of each of those below...

For pics of other concepts please visit the Custom Furniture and Functional Art Page on our site!

And of course, check in with the main page to get the latest site updates: http://www.tomspinadesigns.com

I hope you enjoy the mockups and thanks for looking!

First up... a TDK style "Batdesk" which Richard and I designed a while back. This was initially discussed as a potential been a set piece for a TDK TV special and then a charity auction but alas it didn't come to be.

This would be realized entirely of welded metal and would likely feature drawers within the "wings" on the back side. Definitely an extremely high-end piece due to the demands of the design/build. Would be awesome to see this built someday and of course, we're really proud of the design and figured the RPF gang would enjoy it as well.

Next up, the Mayan Temple desk. My design but the build would be pure Rich Riley. Carved and hardcoated foam for an aged stone look. This would make a great adventurer's desk.

Last up, the T-Rex Desk or Bar. A full size T-Rex skull casting juts out from hand carved faux rock. The dual-level top is ideal for folks who like their monitor on a shelf a few inches above keyboard height. Swap out the drawer unit for a fridge (or wine fridge) and add a few shelves and it could be a pretty wild bar for a home theater or lounge.

Glad folks are liking these!

According to our metal guys, the Batdesk IS doable... pricey, sure, but not prohibitively so. As a desk, it's designed to include steel supports that would run up from the base (at the connection point) and out (and back) to the top work surface. That connection point would likely be around 3"-4" x 12"+ so there's a good amount of room in there for square steel supports to come through. But yeah, weight and time are certainly major concerns on that design. If we ever do build one of these we'll definitely over-engineer it in that regard.

As for the side table idea, yeah, I could definitely see it done as that or a coffee table or thinned way down as a behind-the-couch table or maybe a hallway table.

It's a fun concept though. What I really like is that it's sleek and plays with your sense of balance and such.

Our original plans for this never materialized, so for now, it remains just a concept that maybe we'll have the chance to build for someone some day :)

Two Bat Thumbs Way Up!

Can't ask for more than that! Thanks again :)

By the way Tom, is it too much to ask for a show off thread? Come on Tom. You probably have one of the coolest jobs EVER.

Come onnn.... (Im goading you to show off something awesome!)

Thanks Chuckster!

Don't worry... many more projects are in the works and I'll be sure to share!

Tom

I wonder how the batman desk would look if you turned it horizontal and but the glass ontop to keep the ears from poking anyone.

Wow. Those are AWESOME!!!

I love the t-rex bar. :thumbsup
I was thinking that would make a great BBQ as well (put around a built-in BBQ on a covered deck:))
