Some news regarding my SL mask.

I got confirmation from Juan that the texture inside the mask does not match any of the SL casts he handled.

It's possibly a recast or something else. The cast seems to be resin

Does anyone have an idea what is in my possession?

Ooooooh boy. Is there any indication of glass cloth on the inside at all or does it seem to be solid resin?

Well, Juan is correct. I'm wondering if maybe someone slathered resin on the inside of the helmet (as unlikely - and unnecessary -- as that seems).

You can easy put some layers over the fiberglasstexture inside a mask..and that even years later.Thats a good idea if it smells still from the chemicals.Did that several times with lots of casts. And this hides the fiberglasstextures. But the glass is still there.
But it could also be a recast. But when an expert made the recast...you will see no difference to the real thing.
Can you bent the mask a little bit or is it extreme hard and solid?Fiberglass should be a little bit flexible if the mask is not casted too thick.Resin is rockhard and breaks very fast with too much power.

There is a slight flex to it.

Very strange that this doesn’t appear to be Steve’s usual work. Doesn’t mean it isn’t though. I know he has stepped away from the hobby, but maybe someone could ask him if he ever made any like this to give you piece of mind.

Is there a contact point for him? I would like to ask.

Juan got back to me. Steve said he didn't make it and he is in possession of the molds.

I can be 100% sure it isn't an original SL cast. Strider the seller on the prop den still claims he purchased the cast from Thomas.
