So I just watched Barton Fink...

And could someone please explain it to me? I mean WTF? I hate it when I rent a movie that was nominated for a hundred awards, did fantastic at cannes and then I get it and I just shake my head thinking: Is this the same movie other people saw? I like movies by the Coens(Raising Arizona being my Favorite) But WTF?

I felt this way after seeing Pulp fiction. But at least I laughed once watching pulp fiction.

You didn't "get" Barton Fink? Or Pulp Fiction?

I dunno what to say to that.

Maybe it's best to stick to Michael Bay movies in the future?

I don't think explaining it would help, if you sat through the whole movie and came out with a 'what did I just watch?' reaction, then this movie isn't for you.

I'm a fan of the Coen Brothers' films as well; not all of them, but I like more of them than I dislike. That said, for me Barton Fink falls somewhere in the middle--I didn't dislike it, but it's not something I'd watch regularly.

Been awhile since I've seen it, but from what I remember I don't think Barton Fink is supposed to be taken at face value. The film is the visualization of living in writer's hell - the desire to write a meaningful story yet unable to, feeling oppressed, ignoring the obvious to one's own detriment.

The film is all symbolism. Many interesting analysis have been made about it.

In fact here's one in presentation form:
