Howdy folks. I found this Sting sword awhile back and its been hanging on my wall. Its a cheap china knockoff. But for the $10 I paid for it I'm pretty happy with it. Metal construction, weighs about 5 pounds, but its a little short at 18 inches from tip to pommel. The only thing that really bugs me is the handle. I would like to paint the silver brown. The gold doesnt bug me too much. But that silver......ugh. Any ways I was wonder what kind of paint would be best of this. Its mostly gonna be hanging on the wall except when someone comes over and wants to swing it around every now and then to lay waste to some orcs. The paint thats on it is pretty smooth and slick so I'm a bit worried about new paint sticking. I just want something to look decent and not a half done rattle can job, but obviously nothing as nice as one of those noble collection stings.

Rustoleum or some similar auto paint all the way. Self Etching primer and then whatever shade of brown you think suits. :thumbsup

PS: Don't be afraid to give a wet sand before hand if you're really worried but the SE Primer should do the job.

I would hand-paint. The tiny cans are often dirt-cheap.

If I had that sword and a little bit more time, I would make a more proportional replacement handle out of wood. Stain, lacquer and then draw new silver vines with a pen.

Is the handle metal? After a suitable primer, I'd suggest looking at the Brownell's Aluma-Hyde II paints. These are some of the more durable rattle can paints I've found - colors are limited, but they're tough. Lucky for you the handle detail is raised, so you should be able to mask that easily...

Actually the handle is metal. I just took some sandpaper to a small part of the handle. Just two quick rubs and the paint came right off. Im gonna check around for a good primer and some good rattle can paint. I don't have any equipment to do auto paint. Ill defiantly check out that Brownell's
