I have a hardwood martial arts practice sword that I want to dress up for a halloween costume. It is a medieval theme, so I am going to trim down the guard and the end piece, and replace them with the appropriate looking pieces. I want to sand down the blade and put some of that metal burnishing stuff on it to make it look like metal.
Therein lies my question. I did a search and came up with a brand called "Rub 'n' Buff", but I don't really like the colors they have. The only one I could really use is "silver leaf" but I don't want the blade to end up looking silver. It should look like steel. Are there any other brands out there that have the appropriate color?
Also, I have this foam "shield" that's small and is going to go on the front of the tunic. It looks very silly and almost cartoonish. I want to make it look a bit more realistic, but I have never done this kind of thing before. Anyone have any tips on where I should start? I'd also like to but something on the back to give it some support and rigidity. Maybe some fiberglass filler.
You guys have anything for me?
