Small Casting Help

Hey I was hoping someone could give me a hand with this. I am posting here as it is such a small piece. Essentially I would to mold and cast this piece. It is to replace older versions of the Dalek gun on some of the CO toys, This is a new version that is much smaller and just looks a heck of a lot better. Problem is its small. I have done 1 piece molds before and cast with no issues but I am not sure how this should be approached due to its size. i was hoping some guidance from some of the modeler's would be possible. Thanks for you help.

If it was me i'd make a 2 part mould.

get some plasticene ( or similar product ) push the gun in half way, make a wall around the plasticene with lego ( or similar ) deep enough to for a sturdy mould, make indentations in the plasticene to form a secure lock later on, coat with mould release and pour silicone or equivalent.

once set dismantle lego wall, remove plasticene, turn mould over ( with gun still inside ), re-make lego wall, re-coat with mould release, pour new silicone.

once that's set you should a thick block mould in 2 halves.

Remove the gun, cut a pour channel in both halves of the mould ( you may want to cut another channel from the bottom of the gun to the top of the mould to help release any air trapped during pouring ).

Hope that helps.

thanks for the input Ramirez, i'll be doing that two part mold technique for it then, much appreciated.

Personally, I'd pour a small base in mold rubber, then do a small cavity pour, make a slit at the top and pop out the original piece.

The just fill it with some resin and hit it with a blow dryer or a heat gun...

I use a similar method when moulding heads.

I also cast toy soldiers ( with small parts ) in white metal and the 2 part mould is best for that.
