Hey folks, haven't really been making props for some time lately due to moving and work commitments. Just thought I'd share my Sliders Original Timer with you.
Its not 100% complete yet as I've got some work to do on the battery compartment and other tweaks here and there just thought I'd share and help anyone that's trying to build one. Please any questions just ask, Mark

Very cool. I loved the show but I don't know much about the prop. It looks like it's based on an old Motorola flip phone?

Thanks! I loved the show as well, I've made a couple of timers over the years. Yeah your right by the way it's a Motorola micro tac ultra lite. They're a bit trickier to get your hands on these days, especially within a budget. I was lucky I paid $50.00 as I live in the UK I think it was about £35.00 although I've seen them go for easily triple that. Still, I enjoy making them even if the phones are hard to get hold of. I think that's part of the fun!

Always wanted one of these. Did you used to sell your previous builds on eBay? I'm still kicking myself for not buying them back in the day

Great build.
I am curious as what you used for the rotary dial for the timer? Was this a control knob from another item or was it made?

Also do you have any details about the electronics circuit etc?

Thanks

Hi, I made the dial from plumbers putty (epoxy putty) it takes just minutes to set and then is hard as steel. Although surprisingly strong it is easily workable with sand paper or files which is what I used.

The right bargraph is only partly functional at present which is something I'm working on. Check out the vid and let me know what you think, I'd advise putting the quality up to 720p though as I filmed it with my phone.

That looks really great.

I still have one of the correct phones, plus a very close one and one of the kit shells. Hadn't been able to get a circuit board for it so it's been on hold for a long time. Still have to finish my "functional" Egyptian timer and a static one of Dr Jensen's timer and Logan's timer. May stick some arduinos in them just to give them some effects.

A thing of beauty. I always liked the original timer better. the others looked too much like a super remote.

Ahh, poor sliders. a case of a network, and then later the writers, REALLY trashing and hating it's own show. first two seasons good. the rest just utterly forgettable. Word to the wise, never, allegedly, get drunk at a party IIRC, then they treat your character like crap, give you a disease, make you an invalid, kill you off and THEN explode the planet your body is left on, leaving nothing behind... all in one episode too

sigh.

Did you scratch build or is this a Thermalized Plastics kit? Back in the day someone posted the correct project box info but it's since disappeared from the web. What did you use?

Tried to get a few extra pics of the Timer with the days window showing in a little more detail. Here's a link to the 7-segment displays, these are green but red are available.

Mark,...you added a detail to your timer that few others add. The black portion that extends the battery out. Can you talk a little bit about that please? Is that a custom extension or how did you make that? I'm interested in doing the same. Thanks!

I have a couple of them in a draw and a kit body made by Thermalized Plastics. Hopefully will get around to completing them sometime.

Hi Mark, I have been a huge fan of the show since it first aired back in the 90's.
I am looking at purchasing a replica of the old Original timer prop.
Do you make and sell the replicas?
If not, can you refer me to someone who does?
Sorry to bug you.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
