Skulls of Touganda

Hello everyone! Here's an update for all! I got the gold skull printed (though it failed several times due to me fiddling with the settings for a different print). It finished printing yesterday (Wednesday) midday, and I got it cleaned up ready to paint. Today I gave it the primary paint and hue leaving the urethane clear coat and black wash for tomorrow.

I hope you all enjoy the eye candy hehe

Well I sprayed the silver skull with Molotow Chrome...but apparently I hadn't cleaned the surface well enough and it still contained some containments. Gonna have to strip it and restart the paint process :( (this is not my first time using Molotow so I can only imagine someone in my household had used one of my rags and returned it to the table instead of the used can for washing).

Top of the skull came out fine, the rest of it...bleh

On a more positive note from the silver skull, I got the black wash done on the gold skull. All that is left for the gold and jade skulls are the gems for the eyes, electronics, and magnets for them to connect.

I've got an update for ya'll now that the holidays are over. It was proving to be too much work and risked losing too much details to strip the original silver skull...so I just remade it entirely over the holiday. I just finished laying the chrome paint down tonight and here are a few photos.

Enjoy!

Got all the gem eyes made for the skulls. Here are the rubies wired up and affixed in the jade skull.

Got the emeralds done up and implanted. I think I'm going to do another layer of green on them as the white led washes it out a bit to look a little blue-ish.

The silver skull has it's eyes embedded and all 3 test lighting together! Magnets and battery cages (along with a blackwash on the jade and silver) and these will be FINISHED!

I've got a quick question for everyone: Right now these are hollow and rather light (200g). They are supposed to be solid gemstone/metal according to comic book lore. I would like to fill them with plaster (while leaving the the battery cage and on/off switch still accessible). However, filling them will make them weight 600g+ EACH! This would greatly increase shipping charges were I to sell them.

For those possibly interested in buying a set, would you prefer a filled version with a more realistic feel, or the lighter version if these won't be handled very often?

Something to consider.
1. Lighter means less $$$ for shipping.
2. Plaster takes a long time to dry out and could cause mold to grow.

I am aware that the shipping cost will sky rocket which is why I'm asking what others would want (I personally think the heavier is better but I don't have to spend the money to ship them to myself lol so my opinion shouldn't count here).

The right plaster only takes 1-2 hours to cure and I've used it to fill hollow prints before on some of the hood ornaments I've made for clients so the weight is closer to a metal hood ornament instead of plastic (the plaster also helps those products keep their shape in the Las Vegas heat). Agitating the plaster for 5 seconds 2-3 times during the first 15 minutes helps get all the air out and then you brush some 3D printer resin over the final cured plaster and cure it to seal it so it won't absorb moisture in the future

Got the magnets installed and the weathering done on the jade and silver skulls. Battery stuff arrives tomorrow and they will technically be done.

I would say leave them hollow to save money and give folks the option to weight them. Some may be going on a shelf for display only.

They are FINALLY done!
