Sith Batman

Hello everyone!

I have been working on this project for a few weeks now. I got it in my head to make a Batman inspired Sith suit. I have seen the Darth Vader/Batman combination and wanted to try something a little different. I see this as a combination of Kylo Ren/Batman (Maybe Batman Beyond??) as well as a few other elements thrown in.

I started at the cowl. I found a file for a futuristic Batman and thought this would serve my purposes well. The sides and back are foam. My original thought was to get a higher quality plastic and dye it black for the visor. But I am on a budget and didn't know how well I could do it. So I took a leap and made the visor out of a 2 liter bottle cut and formed to shape. To make it black I put a black layer of window film. (I apologize I don't have any pictures before this initial part was complete.)

It might be be hard to tell from the pics, but I didn't like how the edges met up with the visor. It was a bit rough. So to fix this I decided to add a thinner layer of foam on top to even it up.

I also cut a design into the sides to make it a little more interesting. Unfortunately, this would come back to bite me as I also decided to color those lines red. This made it a bit difficult to color the cowl black and only those lines red. I was stubborn and decided I wasn't going to start over. It actually came out pretty sharp and clean.

I added plasti-dip and then went to work on the color. I went with a shinier black instead of a matte black. For the paint I used a black and red car spray paint intended for a Honda. I like the shinier look to it myself. Gives it more of a reflection.

With the cowl done I started working on the rest of the armor. I found a file that was fairly sleek and that I liked. I made the chest pieces out of a ticker foam and the abs out of a thinner foam. I finished those today and plan on adding plasti-dip soon.

I've also made the shoulder armor and will add pics of that soon as well. After I pasti-dip everything I'm also going to be making some gauntlets.

I will add more as I finish it up. :D

Very short update. I got everything coated in plasti-dip. Plan to do some more layers of that to make extra sure. I will hopefully get to paint tomorrow. Here are the chest and ab pieces with the first layer of plasti-dip on.

Very cool. You did a great job letting those Sith elements come through, especially in the chest piece. Looking forward to seeing this progress.

Thank you very much! The files I found for the chest were really perfect for this. I also thought it looked very Sith-like. Glad I'm not the only one to think so.:D

So the black paint was soaking into the foam and not drying properly. I'm hoping it wasn't because I didn't heat treat the foam enough. I'm going to put a few more layers of plasti-dip on and hope this will solve the issue. I had this same problem with a suit I made a few months ago. So more layers of plasti-dip should do the trick like last time. If all goes according to plan I will be able to paint the pieces today and post some more progress pics.

Alright, so I got more progress done finally. More layers of plasti-dip is exactly what I needed. I did still have a few areas that dried weird and the color was dull. I went over these parts with mod podge. This works well if you want your pieces to have a shiny or glossy element to it. I'll be working on attaching everything today. Here are some more pics in the meantime.

**The lightsaber is something I made a few years ago. I recently updated it with sound. :)

Ok. At this point I'd say I'm about 95% done.

I had to cut the shoulder armor because it was going to either be on top or below my chest piece.

A quick and easy modification.

On the chest and top ab piece I attached velcro to help keep them in place. I also attached velcro to the clothes that I will be wearing.

I know it looks like a terrible mess. But as long as that velcro stays (Oh boy it will. I made sure of it.) it is effective and also works for a budget. I will be adding extra support for the chest. I'll probably use some nylon strapping to do that. I also have to make the gauntlets. I've gotten almost everything done so I'll be working on a new project for my fiancee for a while. But I will continue to add to this until it's finished.

Ok! Time for an update. I'm completely done with everything. I ended up using gauntlets from a previous build though because I ran out of plasti-dip. My budget wouldn't allow me to buy more. Haha. I think overall it came out pretty well. I'll be at Animazement to show my work off! More pictures will come after that. Until then, here's a few that were already taken.
